Subject says it all, has everything already been covered? And not just touched upon but covered ad nauseam? Le work sucks, le fuck the man, le drugs are good but also destroy your life, le love, love death, le family issues, le coming of age, le humanities, there doesn’t seem to be a single thing left unsaid by the human race. What worth are new books?

And I’m dead serious. I fucking hate diversity pushes but there doesn’t seem to be anything left to say other than take what’s already been done and throw it through the lens of a new generation or racial/sexuality POV. Not that I’m saying those ever have worth or are even entertaining but I genuinelh don’t know what else there is to say. Reflections of a digital community and the utter loneliness of being isolated and having no friends outside of fake internet people? Even that’s been done to death.

I can’t think of a single topic not driven into the ground like a railroad spike and ran train upon like the cheapest whore in a busy brothel.

So then why do they keep making new books. There’s nothing left to say.

Art isn't about "saying" something. Art is fundamentally the creation of perceptions.

All is vanity.

Probably not. I read Call of the Crocodile and I don’t think I’ve ever read a book like that. F Gardner literally came up with a concept for a twist no one has ever thought of doing before.

It's so much worse than that. Even if anything remains to be said, humanity has regressed beyond a point where they could hear it.

I don’t know if I agree. Sure many people may be unable to understand but that’s always been the norm. I just genuinely think humans have reached a plateau. There’s nothing new to be discovered. Maybe aliens. Or space travel. But these just widen the scope of our current follies and tribulations.

In 1900, before the discovery of atoms, relativity, and all that gay space stuff, Lord Kelvin allegedly said "There is nothing new to be discovered in physics now. All that remains is more and more precise measurement."

Granted, that is physics, and not writing. But there are always new things to discover, and old things to write in new ways about. If humanity hadn't this cringe defeatist attitude there would be an infinite pool of new topics to cover. We could send a man to Mars in a year's time if we wanted.

art is about remembering what is important and about seeing the same thing in a number of different ways. fact is we just forget everything so easily. wisdom is something that needs to be constantly revisited and reaffirmed and re-examined. art draws us to things we overlook in our day to day lives, it shows us things that the systems of our language, our society, our thought, it shows us things that these systems sort of exclude by their nature. stop and smell the flowers, they say. a cliché. tired. banal. but absolutely true. it's like that DFW speech where he says banalities are banal because they are true and necessary, we must revisit them always. and as for the flower example, when was the last time you did that, literally? to stop and examine a flower? art can remind us of wisdom and beauties that in our folly we forget.

art is the continual remembrance and re-examination of the divine aspect of humanity

The absolute truth of the reality of everything will not be revealed until the end of the world.

The idea(l) comprises its concepts, and surprises its conceptions; the importance of novelty consists in the emergency of originality.
