Yeah but what happened? Something crushed this guy's soul and hollowed him out, only he won't get to the point and he keeps going off on tangents. He's married, he has a successful career where he's respected in his field. Is he mad the Germans lost?

He obsesses, aka digs a tunnel. Fixates on every fault and failing in his life and lets it consume him. He is a fraud and writing the introduction to his book forced him to face that,
