Most people tend to take the Turner Diaries too seriously, either viewing it as some kind of political blueprint or as the inspiration for the "White Nationalist terrorism" boogeyman.

In reality Pierce wrote it as a serialised fiction column for the National Alliance newspaper, and from what I recall he didn't even write it all at once. It was only ever meant to be a silly but fun action story, as shown by the number of ludicrously over the top elements in the story (beating a Jew to death with a jar of kosher pickles, getting liberals to redeem themselves by collecting nigger scalps, nuking the entire non-White world, dating the future world from the birth of Hitler, etc). In other words, it's pulp fiction not serious political philosophy.

This is even more apparent in the sequel, which is more overtly satirical (and a more enjoyable book in my view).
