so basically the author wrote this book 60 years ago to mock me from beyond the grave

He predicted the modern phenomenon of delusional right-wing losers who are obsessed with meme authors yes, he just chose the wrong writer. Should have been Evola, Guenon or Spengler instead of Boethius. Boethius is too high brow/philosophical for these people.

Anyone read Toole's other book? Almost done with this, and I wanna read the Neon Bible after, but I've never heard anyone talk about it. Is it any good?

Honestly why don't we have Boethius shills? That'd be funny as hell

I really liked his treatise on music, but it is pretty niche.

Everyone would accuse you of larping as Ignatius. But we are overdue for real and true medieval shills. Surely there's an autist out there dying to spread the word of Abelard or Anselm.

Toole's Neon Bible is a solid 3/5, which is impressive considering that he was like 16 when he wrote it.

I really prefer Burnish's Neon Bible. It's a completely different work, but it really helped me course-correct from becoming a degenerate homo sapien.

It's very good, but it's a lot sadder than A Confederacy of Dunces. It's also written in an easier style (that of a first-person narrator who isn't very smart, rather than an omniscient third-person narrator) but it's understandable since Toole was 16 when he wrote it. The style also makes it a very quick read, I think I finished in 2 or 3 days without much sweat.
