So I'm doing the whole roulette short story game here on /lit/ and what do you know, I end up with a Thomas Pynchon story - 'The Small Rain,'

Wonderful story I thought, so I decided to see what all the fuss was about and ordered 3 of his books. V, Gravities Rainbow, and Mason & Dixon. So we'll see how those go.

However, I searched his name on youtube and haphazardly stumbled across 'The Thomas Pynchon Fake Book,' which was a collection of musicians in America putting the lyrics from parts of Gravities Rainbow into songs.

For people who have enjoyed the book I suggest you check it out. I eagerly await reading his work.

Duuuuuude. I have a bad feeling about this. Those aren't books you can really rush into, especially off the strength of a short story.

No, it'll be fine. I've read big sprawling books before, just never really delved into Pynchon. I know the short story is not really anything like his novels, but it just sparked an interest, or rather, reminded me that I needed to read him.
