When will /lit/ stop claiming shakespeare was this ground breaking genius, when he was clearly writing genre fiction for the renaissance version of TV mexican soap operas and movies and he was writing mainly for iliterate peasants, prostitutes, drunk sailors and urchins, just so they could pay him the price of a ticket so he could make money.

Because his company was on the fucking red area of london where not a single "GOOD" person, but whores and urchins and drunk sailors went to fuck those whores.

That was the public shakespeare was writing to, not Ivy League college teachers.

Yes, he wrote better shit than 99% of writers in history, but my point still is that he wrote for drunk iliterates and prostitutes, not rich Ivy league professionals.

Why does someone writing for rich ivy leaguers make them a better writer? The greatest write for ALL, which Shakespeare did. I’ll let Goethe tell you

his audience literally included kings and queens
and everyone else from the landed gentry to the peasantry
that's why his work contains everything from high minded soliloquies to dirty jokes
he knew his audience, probably better than anyone else in history. certainly better than you do.

you're missing my point retard.

Shakespeare concerns were never, are the plebs under my artistic literary concerns?

No, he literally wrote genre fiction crap, the same crap you see today on anime, fantasy and marvel and games, and netflix.
He literally wrote for his century own version of today videogames.

He just learned the craft to autistic levels and produced masterpieces.

He knew how to appeal to both the iliterate manchildren redditors of his time, as well as the boomers but also to the Ivy league teachers.

Which seems like a fucking funny joke when lit retards claim they're above and beyond writing genre fiction.

retard detected
your "point" is that you are a retard
"ivy league professionals" did not exist
Also, henceforth, you must pay a coppa in the jar for every time you quote him amid your usual speech.
And remember to pay the contents of that jar monthly to whatever militia promises to quickly free us from our current bondage.

P.S. As a real writer, Shakespeare, as all the others, wrote ultimately only for himself.

The plot is not really the point in his plays; they are naturally limited to what could be performed on a stage.
It’s the language as it flows, as it hits the heart and mind; how it resonates with lived experience.
If you don’t like Shakespeare, live more. He’ll get you.

he wrote dialogue in imabic pentameter which also rhymed and inferred allegory. regardless of his time’s entertainment, that’s a genuinely difficult and arguably genius thing to do. most writers today even in the /wg/ write past tense limited third person sentence structure about generic fantasy. imagine retards today trying to write literally anything in imabic pentameter

blah blah blah, still kino

>> No.20412238

If I thought a Mexican soap opera was kino, I would feel no shame in watching it nor shilling it. the ultimate question in art is beauty, and beauty at its lowest level has to entertain, if I am entertained why should I be ashamed? I’ll gladly talk about any philosopher I’ve read and compare to episodes of my preferred anime such as the magical girl sailor moon-esque revolutionary girl utena, and I’ll gladly talk about that next to my enjoyment of the movie step brothers and other similar Will Farrell films, and I’ll at once tell you I like mf doom, Marvin Gaye and baroque music. Why should anyone be ashamed of the popularity of a piece, or it’s intellectual density, if it is serviceable in induction of beauty and entertainment?

Now you can shit on him for his writing and argue he’s not entertaining and beautiful, but by saying “ Yes, he wrote better shit than 99% of writers in history, but my point still is that he wrote for drunk iliterates and prostitutes, not rich Ivy league professionals. “ you admit there’s really no argument here. He’s in the top 1% to you of writers.

Personally I think he’s higher than that, there’s no way that one in a hundred randomized popular writers will be equivalent to Shakespeare in quality.

Shakespeares job was to legitimize Early Modern English to the plebeians who preferred to speak in the older Anglo-Saxon tongues and thus universalize how language was spoken in England. He specifically wanted to demonstrate that Early Modern English could be used to describe human emotion on the same level as their current vernacular tongue, providing a pretext to "enforce" linguistic uniformity on the general populus.
