Just a suggestion if you ever wanna do this again, 1500 words is too little, most short stories go between 3000 and 5000. I know it implies a lot more reading for you, but I think it would improve the quality of the submissions. One can't even begin to get into the story with 1500 w's.

Just my two cents, great initiative btw. We need more people like you on /lit/.

Yes you can. Although a contest with an upper limit of 5000 would be cool.

>> No.2039725

Just a bit of advice, OP. If you're going to host these contests with any semblance of regularity, maybe have one for longer entries, one for shorter entries, and one for poems. Including poems in this contest is a bad idea, I think, since you'll end up judging between prose and poetry together. It's like having a contest for paintings but accepting charcoal sketches too.

Suddenly you're in another city and you see a sign on the outside of a building that says ìCatastrophic Loss Rehabilitationî and you figure you must have read that wrong.

Suddenly you're all stopped at a McDonalds drive-thru and you don't want to get anything but you order a milkshake. It tastes weird. People ask you if you're sure that's all you want because there won't be good food when we get there. And you say that yes, you're sure.

And maybe now you're having some doubts. Or maybe you're just hungry.

Maybe now you're thinking this isn't gonna be worth it.

Suddenly you're being asked if you brought your DS, and yes you did, and did you want to play Pokemon, and you're not sure if you do, because your team isn't that good.

But everyone's team isn't that good and you win a few matches and shrug off a few compliments. Someone in the front passenger seat wants to see your team and you don't really want him to touch your DS because he has burger grease on his hands but you let him anyways because what else are you going to say?

And when you get it back you don't even wipe it off much even though it is a bit greasy because you think it might look rude to go out of your way to wipe off something that someone else just handed you.

Suddenly you're out in the country and the sun would be casting long shadows if there was anything to cast shadows of besides your car. Everything is very big and wide and empty and it's getting dark and you're a little scared but you're not sure what of.

Suddenly someone beside you is very concerned about the tickets and do you still have the tickets and yes you say you have them and take them out of your bag. And he asks to see one and you let him see it. And he asks how far back this row is and are they good and you don't know and say that you don't know but you figure they're pretty good even if you have no idea if they're pretty good. The letter is G which is a pretty small letter but doesn't necessarily mean there's only six rows in front of you.

Then he's suddenly asking about the time, so concerned about the time, asking what the time is and how much longer it will take to get there because the ticket says doors at 9 and it's 8:30 now and you tell him that the show doesn't really start until 10:30 and that before that there's just a few opening acts that aren't worth going out of your way to see. And someone driving the car confirms that we'll be fine for time anyways.

And someone else beside you has finished making some adjustments to his team and asks do you want to battle again and even though you don't you do anyways because you have to do something.

And your milkshake runs dry and you score a few critical hits when you needed them and now he wants to battle again and you feel he might even be a little upset.

Semicolon, is it possible for you to give like a sentence or two about each work you read? I understand there were a lot of entries, I was just wondering for critique's sake.

Thanks for the good comments guys, I'll keep working on it. I really didn't have that much time to write it, barely had time to edit a bit.

And btw, I was the one who complained earlier about the space constraints, cause I wanted to have multiple voices telling the story, but ran out of room fast.

Hope to see you all in the next one!
