Just leave them in.

I had some extra copies of a few books due to a christmas mishap (mom asking both of my siblings to order them for her. I miss my mom) and I doodled in the first pages and wrote a few notes before dropping them off at the open bookshelf.

I personally love well-worn books with notes in the margins and personalized first pages.
