Is not caring about book aesthetics the ultimate reddit-pill? akin to telling a balding man to "just shave it all off"? Why do we not care about aesthetics and craft anymore and shame the people who do? Honestly, if you only care about the content of the book why don't you just go and read pdfs and ebooks? Has utilitarianism and pragmatism made us all forget about art and soul? Seriously, it didn't always used to be like this...

I don't have enough money to care much. I buy everything used but I do try to make sure the books I buy aren't beat to shit.

Most people care about the aesthetics of the book, they will always choose the edition with the shiny well designed cover.

that's the only the most shallow of aesthetic choices, more important is binding, paper and print quality, and format

Me too but because I'm a poorfag, not because I'm above aesthetics

Poorfags get a pass obviously. Although, there are places to get good-looking (if often extremely old) books for cheap.

One can appreciate both the formatting and content of a book simultaneously, believe it or not

If the point of this thread hasn't made it painfully obvious to you yet: you are preaching to the choir.

Same here. I'm addicted to purchasing used books at Goodwill thrift stores. I never get anything in fair / poor condition unless it's a very rare find. Everything else is very good / great. Thanks to Goodwill's color-coded sticker system, amazingly, all of my books are always half-priced.

The only time I care about my books' aesthetic, is when I'm not reading them and only putting them on a shelf.
If I'm going to bend the cover to better read the pages, underline paragraphs I'm studying and bringing it along with me, I could care less about it being a paperback.

Have the English poetic text after the first line of each stanza hanging and I'd say this would be perfect diglot formatting for any bilingual work.
