A man wakes up in the year 2028, he's been in a coma for 8 years. All of western civilization has devolved and stood to a point of a faulty utopia. Almost everyone is chubby and obese, the only somewhat physically fit people are the impoverished that have starved to the point of ostracization or the correctional teams and armed forces that demand it.

Everyone is encouraged and in many places to take a dozen different vitamins and at least 30 milligrams of Concerta every morning, before that they must eat grain disks and drink fluoride enriched water.

Most of the manual labor jobs are now done by manually controlled robots from the office spaces of the warehouses that they once worked in.

People now live in a uniform and sterilized pod homes that can house two per unit and 50 per floor comfortably.

Food is mostly vegetable, grain, and insect protein. Heavily artificial paste is given to everyone after eating to help with sleep and to clear pallets.

Television only runs advertisements and news now.

The White population of all countries has dropped by 24% as mulatto and hypermixed ethnicities become the predominant. Those who have possibly 'rebelled' against the practices and administration are sent to 'Non-Zones' where they are made to live in squalor and are killed like cockroaches. Heavily armed peacekeepers and national guardsmen supplied with large robotic surveying drones usually eliminate any man, woman, or child in the area through sweepings and carpet bombings. None of this is reported, and if it's ever mentioned it's stated as a super-fund sight that is being supported by the federal government as much as possible.

Everyone is fat and happy, they own nothing, they eat compromised foods and sit idly by as a machine harvests and collects and transports the resources.

90k words into a retelling of Dante’s inferno where the main protag is a blind teenage girl guided by a foul mouthed goth girl named Virginia in a Kentucky trailer park while in the guardianship of a despicable white trash redneck who represents the devil. #howtostackmetaphorlikejenga
It’s a fun little project. Should be finished in a week or so. Managed to shoehorn in some lovecraftian/stranger things shit to add to the weirdness.

Our protagonist who we will call "Tom." has awoken from his coma. A coma that was caused by a car accident 8 years ago, almost a whole decade!

Once awake a nurse comes in and notifies him that he has been in a coma and that much of the world has changed. He asks what but the nurse simply ignores him and tells him that'll he 'adjust soon enough.'

Tom spends the next two days regaining the ability to move his body and is able to stand up on his own. One evening while in bed, a big fat black hoggish lady nurse walks over and tells him that he needs to start taking his recommended daily amount of fluoride. He tells her he doesn't understand why he needs to swallow fluoride capsules every 12 hours. The nurse orders Tom to and he hesitantly takes the off-white seltzer capsule. The lady leaves and he vomits the capsule out into a waste bin.

Finally, Tom has had enough and tries to leave through the front door of the hospital but is stopped and is forced back into his room with the pretense that he has "not rested and fully recovered yet."

Confused and agitated by the fact that he can not even checkout of the hospital on his own volition, Tom makes a plan to break out through the window. Later that night, Tom anchors together some bedsheets and a grapples down from the second story hospital window. Tom, only wearing a pair of socks and a grey sweatpants, flees into the streetlight covered city. Dodging through parking lots and back alleys.

Tom finds a closed second-hand store and breaks in just to find some shelter and clothing from the cold night. He bundles up with a pair of brown, somewhat tattered work pants, a long sleeve grey thermal shirt, a pair of black sneakers and a shortened blackish-blue trench coat.

In the morning, he runs off and into the open world once again. The streets are lined with tall and architecturally repeating tenet buildings. Strange, sleek and dinky looking electric cars zoom by for the apparent early morning commute. Theirs's a lot more billboards and advertising signs than before, a lot of them look over simplistic and many just have a Black man and a White woman in coitus with the logo somewhere off to the side. It was bizarre.

People looked huskier and shorter, like someone had hit them in the head with a cartoon mallet. Many were hairy and swarthy, it was like walking in downtown Dallas. Some people would give Tom a look or a weird glance with their pig-like facial structures, many however would be staring at a new age smartphone. A good portion of people also had ear muffs on, as if they were so comfortable with walking down a city street that they didn't need to hear anything besides what they're favorite music.

People dressed stranger than before, some men were wearing feminine clothing that didn't fit right at all. Some girls wore baggy sweats and dungarees. Tom even walked by a overweight Hispanic lesbian couple with a five-year-old boy in a crop top and biking shorts. It was sending error signals in Tom's head, it was disgusting, a total moral debauchery.

Tom had spent the entire early morning just walking around and observing, not a lot of homeless people were around anymore. The streets had trash still and the air was a bit stiff with smog, nobody seemed to care though.

You should read 'Coin Locker Babies' by Ryu Murakami. I feel like there's similarities here. That book is about the netherworld that is night time Tokyo. It has moments where you think to yourself: 'Inferno' but neon lights and ramen kek. Crazy stuff.
