This book is the best literary book on magic I've ever read. It's a novel and not exactly practical information on performing magic but I'll be damned if any work gets across what real magic is supposed to be better than this and even if it does it certainly doesn't come even close to how beautiful this book does it.

Study the corpus hermeticum, the neoplatonists, Plotinus, proclus and Iamblichus and then study Boehme (he’s the key to hermetic alchemy, he’ll explain the symbolism best.) beginning with Clavis, from here you should read Agrippa and Paracelsus and Trithemius then you’re good to go, you could study any alchemical text you want from this point forward.
