Books to help me clean up and organize my life?

I'm tired of being sloppy and unorganized. My house growing up was chaotic and no one really taught me these life skills. For instance, I just throw my mail into a big pile, accumlate crap until it becomes an incoherent mess. I just noticed messes that would bother other people don't really bother me.

you don't need a book, you need to be free from anxiety and to detach yourself from 'your' room and it just being a room to clean.
dont think about how much work it is, just tackle each task one at a time based on priority.

Start inviting people over. That will create deadlines for you to make your residence however presentable you think is needed. If you still think it's OK for it to be a mess for your guests, then you'll have to find a different idea. If you like computer science, you might find the idea of a "bookkeeping" overhead, as opposed to infrequent cleanups, to be an intriguing analogy for keeping one's belongings tidy.
