My father has recently began reading books and his birthday is coming up. I want to get him a few really good books. Any suggestions? He likes the classics such as 'To Kill a Mockingbird' and '1984'.

I wasn't familiar with these authors but after looking at their Wikipedia pages, they definitely seem to have written books my father would like. Thank you for the suggestion.

Old man and the sea - Hemmingway
20,000 leagues under the sea - Verne
Heart of darkness - Conrad

As an older gent those are some of the books I’ve really enjoyed recently.

If light gothic horror is a possible avenue then I’d recommend both Dracula - Stoker and Frankenstein - Shelley.

Good luck OP.
