We're never getting it. The tv show killed ASOIAF, and he's already paid. The better chance we have is some Brian Sanderson equivalent to write it post-mortem and pray that's any good, but I doubt it.

I just let it go. Go read Discworld or something, that's what i did.

No. The whole problem is having medieval fiction with characters so well developed it can get anywhere because it takes itself too seriously. If you want something deep and insightful you'll not find it in fiction.

Yes, it is light-hearted entertainment, and way more quotable for deep passages instead of the implications of medieval warfare with dragons or magic thingamajigs.

He didn't bother writing anything during the majority of those 11 years. He was going to conventions for the books and then doing press and conventions for the show. At this point I'd be happy with a short book with a bunch of new pov that tells the rest of the conflicts from a more mundane perspectives; just to have closure for the overarching story.

The sample chapters show it's pretty easy for him to write himself out of the corner. Victarion appears at the very beginning of the Mereen battle, some of the sellswords turned their clocks, the others are incompetent and there's the chance that Dany will descend upon the battle with a new khalasar. It's pretty much won.

Plus, she already went east, north and will descend to the south, there's nowhere else to go but west.
