Who are the modern day philosophers? I really liked picrel. It was written before Jordan Peterson became really popular, and therefore feels more like a rigid philosophical work than a book targeted towards his audience, like the 12 rules books.

Unironically chuds like Sam Hyde and Mister Metokur. We've had 4000 years of traditional philosophy; there's only so much you can think about things before all the main schools of thought are exhausted. Everything in that is just previous shit updated to fit the modern context.

However, technology and the internet is revolutionary. The right way of thinking about things is that we are significantly separated from the rest of human history: the human history that didn't have computers. The "philosophy" of our time, if you can even call it that, consists of people taking about the effects of social media, what it means to live in the era of social justice and tech censorship, etc etc. Unfortunately, this means that almost all of it is blackpill or clownpill shit.

I agree about Sam Hyde, although Sam talks more about financial and life advice type things than philosophical topics, like Peterson. That being said, Sam mentions Peterson alot in his earlier Hydewars episodes so he's obviously effected by him.

Has anyone watched this? I began watching because I found it odd to see someone like Jordan Peterson discussing anything with Roger Penrose.
I got 20 minutes in, and because I know very little about physics or cognitive science, I can't tell if I'm overreacting about how embarrassing it is for Jordan Peterson in terms of interview/discussion performance.

I watched it, I have no fucking idea why Jordan would even implicitly suggest that his archetypical psychology could be linked to bleeding edge astrophysics. What was he thinking. Playing devil's advocate you could say he was just there to learn, but come on. The whole thing was pretty awkward, but learning about pic related was fun, even if Penrose himself essentially said it's just a fun little art piece/thought experiment.

Honestly I'm huge on the meta irony thing. It makes alot of people seethe but my favorites are BAP and Sam Hyde. For BAP his book and podcasts are pretty great, as for Sam Hyde his videos. Both are on Gumroad. If you really feel like it you can get one month on it, then download all the shit to computer, then cancel. Pretty sure that they have a free month as well. However I kept it since they are a part of the few creators I actually want to support in modern day, so I dont mind letting em have a fiver monthly.

No, all the stuff Plato and Aristotle discussed were considered old knowledge. Their methods of explaining them are what proved novel. Plato, in discussing the proper way to raise children in his Republic, refered to norms and knowledge that were already established as good. The field of mathematics wasn't new to him. Raising kids to be physically healthy, mathematically minded, and moral are all "conservative" (in the real , apolitical sense of the word) things. Even Aristotle said that the purpose of his thesis in Ethics was not to make "debate masters" but to make moral children.
The Eastern Plato and Aristotles, Confucius and Mencius, also believed philosophy was a backward, inward looking study. It's why they refer so heavily to the ancient chinese book of Poetry.
In the ancient past, philosophy was a look backwards and inward. Only in modern times (a result of the French and Protestant Revolutions) did "philosophy" become less about finding the truth and more about novelty and debate club bullshit. In fact, iirc Plato refused to allow the younger pupils to debate because he recognised that even in his day the tendency of young guys to turn philosophy into owning contests and dick measuring was inevitable.
The purpose of philosophy is to look for Truth and to become moral. You're not gonna find that in guys who want you to think your brain works the same as a lobster or from the guy who used to be based but now lives in an anime basement afraid of being killed by a puff of wind or the China Virus.
I have no problem with Sam Hyde, but he's still not a philosopher. E Michael Jones may qualify, but regardless, the point of learning philosophy isn't supposed to be Acts 17:21. It's about self improvement, and finding what is the most true.
many of the classical philosophers, and theologians will bring you closer to that.
