Why do you specifically want to read modern books, anon? You should start (and end) with the classics.

Idk, what do people think of Tao Lin's new book though? I wasn't here when it came out, obviously it's not the most highbrow thing ever but it seems like he's at least maturing and attempting to write in good faith.

mostly stick to pre wwII literature. Knausgaards My Struggle starts off fun in its first volume with good atmosphere and the sceenes are funny and good. After that its clear hes a modern writer who can only sort of write and can't think in any meaningful way, who had enough good material to write a good novel. its easy to read and relatable cause its recent.

Haven't read it but can say that there were very few threads about it and no discussion on release. Tao's gotta up his advertising budget.

high literature by the standard of percy jackson and big nate that I was reading when i read Moers, but I dont think it would stack up against the classics which is the standard we should be judging on.

Ok, scratch the modern thing. Just please don’t give me some dull, English teacher shit.

If you want fun modern lit read Vonnegut or Twain. Hesse is also very accessible but works as an entry to deeper ideas. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is pure condensed life experience and is very accessible. Jonathan Safran Foer's novels are fun too.
