he makes lots of footnotes and commentary on german words that don't translate particularly well to english; explaining the possible interpretations a word could imply, but would get lost in a direct english translation.

Personally, I am a fan of Ludovici and Mencken. They are the editions that can be found in the online Gutenberg versions. Should be first results when you search for the book.

Reasoning: They are free, they are good quality. Of all the online versions, they have the best readability. Also I like Gutenberg, and old editions of books in general, but that's my bias.
