You see, the other day I was told what the final exam for my advanced French class would be: I would have to talk about a skill of mine. I had had a similar speech, albeit in English, in my public speaking course years ago. As I had no real talents or skills (And still am without either), I resorted to a more humorous speech. I learned how to solve a Rubik's Cube, and showed it off, mentioning at the end that I had learned it just for the occasion. That idea recurred to my mind, but here I had no Rubik's Cube. And yet mere days later I encountered one left on a bench just on my usual route to my apartment. Leaving it there for whichever thoughtless person had forgotten it was never an option.
And now, over a week later, I've been having trouble making up my mind (Or perhaps simply working up the balls). Should I take a swing and ask out a very attractive girl of Indian descent who's in a few of my classes? I failed to work up the courage to ask her out in my first of two classes with her this week, just earlier today. Afterwards, during my usual Monday trip to the delightful weekly flea market, I encountered an object which held a sort of magnetism over me. One which I, as an Englishman and a lover of Kipling, could never see for sale and leave without. An article with a certain symbolic meaning.
A pith helmet. Made in England, around the time of WWII. I bought it, of course, and consider it 60 euros well-spent. I spent the next two hours wearing it as I continued to browse the flea market and walk around the Old Town.

The only reason NASA landed on the Moon was politics. Once they have done that, and Soviets couldn't keep up, it wasn't worth it (for politicians) to continue that program and keep spending money.
However, over those fifty years, technology has improved, got cheaper and private companies have emerged. You're now able to do the same mission, for much lower price. In the 60s about 4.5% of the federal budget was going to NASA, now it's only 0.5%. With a much smaller budget, NASA is today able to not only send people to the Moon, but build a first base as well.

I simultaneously want to find friends and isolate myself, and I can't tell how much of the latter is justified - due to how generally retarded most people are - and how much is not justified, and is me being afraid of meeting people. so after three days of continuous tinkering, i finally have a decent workflow for converting book scans into PDFs that are readable on e-ink screens. Pic rell is a picture of an original scan, and the cleaned up version for e-reading
if you take a normal scan of a book and try to read it on an e-reader, it shows up really weird and the background is grey and blotchy. I found a way to isolate just the text and add a plain white background so now, its a plain, sharp, clear black and white page. Its the closest thing to actually owning the book itself in terms of digital reading.
originally I was going to convert them to djvu but all the utilities and tools for djvu manipulation are so outdated that they wont run on a modern system (well, they probably could, but that requires knowledge of the dark arts of UNIX shell scripting that are beyond my grasp). PDF is a pretty universal format and I can compress a whole lot, since its just black and white text + color cover image. I can also set the DPI to be just as sharp as printed text (assuming your e-reader's PPI is high enough to handle it), Also I now easily add (surprisingly accurate) OCR too, so the PDF will be text-searchable.
Im mainly posting this because I'm wondering if there are any other anons interested, I was thinking about doing a write-up of the process

Finally finished my new cassette recording setup. I'll never forget that portable Sanyo that served me so well, but this new setup is so much more legit. The actual reason why I have trouble reading is because I’m shit at annotating. I obsessively compile passages and quotations from every book I read. I much prefer reading physical books over reading on my phone, but I also refuse to highlight anything or ruin the pages by marking on them. I have become increasingly apathetic towards my day job. It is a salaried position working from home so I often get away with doing minimal work on the daily. I often take naps, read, play video games, or cool during work hours, even during meetings. Regular stuff but what surprised me was the amount of emphasis he put on how plain, detached, robotic and emotionless my speech and general behavior is. i think I've finally integrated at least a low res view of female psychology. I've known about all the RP theory, PUA , philosophers etc for years but it took the complete infatuation (a serious psychic death) and loss of a women to finally drive the point home and drive out the autism.

Among other things it was the role of fantasy that escaped me for so long. I've always been interested in art/fashion but I never saw it as a means to communicate to people a SPECIFIC message. For me it was always either a pleasure to enjoy as a viewer or a pleasure to create without much care for the signal. I never crafted an 'image' but shifted from symbol to symbol out of an largely unconscious push. When it came to art I loved to focus on techniques and less on the gestalt. This is essentially an autistic way of viewing art because it focuses less on the external affect the piece might have and more on the trying to represent a extremely messy internal message. This is of course more genuine but in a commodified world where so many are attempting to create a specific image out of the symbols they amass it becomes harder to 'win' trying to represent your real internal state.
