What is the hardest episode? I just read Sirens, and that was something else. That's for sure.

For me, it was Oxen of the Sun. Very difficult. Persevere, though! It's so rewarding when you finally "break through", so to speak.

I've heard a lot of people say that, actually. Thanks for the encouragement, though, haha. What do you mean "break through"? Like decipher?

When you make some kind of connection or get some kind of joke, really. It's very hard to decipher some kind of concrete meaning from Oxen. You'll see what I mean when you read it. It's... rigourous work to say the least.

is there any way i could still find a printed version of the letters to nora barnacle?

By the way, i'm finishing on reading Dubliners - should i advance to Ulysses or Finigan's Wake?

Portrait of the Artist, I'd say, if you've not already read it.
If you must choose strictly from the two you mentioned, go with Ulysses. Finnegan's Wake is very much worth reading, but you have to get used to Joyce's insanity first. Think of it as cooling yourself down before you plunge into the freezing water.

I don't have to choose strickly from these too, but i am enjoying joyce's writing. I haven't read "Portrait..." but feel free to sugest something out of this realm.

There are collections of his letters you could probably find at a good library. That's where I read them.

My vote is that Oxen of the Sun is the most difficult in terms of density, obscurity, etc. but it's also very enjoyable to read for anyone just because of the stunningly good prose.

I would encourage reading Portrait before Ulysses.
