Both are cool to be honest. But I like Buddhism better.

I go through phases of posting on /lit/ more and then less often, a good deal of which is about content unrelated to vedanta. Did you have a specific question that you wanted to ask me or something?

>>20188761
I would never convert to Buddhism because I would never be so stupid and foolish so as to deny the existence of my own self.

No, I just haven't browsed this board actively since 2019 so I was curious. Your posts were quite interesting so they stuck in my mind.

Thank you, since you found that to be the case then you may want to consider reading through the commentaries of Shankara if you haven’t already, because reading the source material is much more interesting IMO than 2nd-hand rephrasing of it or debating it vis-à-vis other doctrines.

No, that part of that post was phrased very poorly, and I would have rewritten what I said had I known people would ask me about it later. I was never a Buddhist and I never have identified myself as one to others. When I was a young teenager I read a book on Buddhism and agreed intuitively with the general (pan-Indian) ideas of karma and rebirth, but the idea of no-self always seemed off to me, I never accepted the metaphysical claims/worldview of Buddhism via anicca, anatta etc but I basically just agreed with a sort of vaguely eastern or pan-Indian worldview and approach to spirituality without investigating the texts of each tradition at a deeper level, and the moment I did so I saw that the Hindu teachings made more sense to me. Saying I used to be a Buddhist there was basically a poorly phrased and careless way of saying that when I was younger I agreed with the superficial understanding of eastern spirituality that I had at the time, and then when I began studying the topic closely, only afterwards did I begin to take a more critical attitude to certain eastern teachings.

No, but learning to read and speak Sanskrit is something I’d really like to do sometime in the next 10 years, I may start studying it in an academic setting in the next 2-3 years but I’m still working out all the details. I care more about that and find the idea more alluring than anything to do with travel or other leisurely activities.
