Hey /lit/
Why are names and places almost always omitted in Dostoyevski's works?

>> No.2018273

Cause he's a dick. It's well confusing trying to discern between Prince R------- and Prince S--------

>> No.2018274

Censorship?
I'm nit really sure, just making an educated guess.

>> No.2018291

it was a style of the time. not just in Russian.

I don't know why, but I feel that it was a point the author was making, that the name of the person (or place; many authors do this with place-names as well) is immaterial, or possibly to avoid confusion with a living person.

>> No.2018311

Wait, I don't understand.

I've read The Idiot and that had all the proper names in it, including people and places.

>> No.2018313

Goethe has the same thing for certain proper nouns. Just assuming it's the style of the times.
