In a book for free time, probably around 10-20. But considering we read all day long on our phones and for work (I'm a student and I hate it currently), the number should be MUCH higher.
The issue is not that people read "much less than fifty years ago". The issue is that people read so much now that they definitely won't go for yet another book in their free time. They want to do something that is either more active (moving your body) or even more passive (binging Netflix or whatever).

i don't know, i read 60-90 minutes every morning, so it depends on how difficult the text is

Depends on what book I'm reading but around 25-100. When it comes to reading quality, not quantity, is all that matters. I read good books and always try to analyze and think about what I'm reading instead of blazing through pages only to make more clickbait booktube videos.

Why do you guys worry about autistic bullshit like this? Why do you have to aim for a specific page count?
Why not actually finish the book instead?

Outside of work and uni, which had me read over ten thousand words a day, I just read a short 90 page book in a sitting. That's probably shit but who fucking cares? I suddenly outgrew my need for reading "goals."

I find I read a lot more if a book has shorter chapters, oddly enough. Maybe more incentive to keep going. Nothing like reading Proust and you see a 150 page chapter on a boring Guermantes party coming up

>> No.20174015

>>20173998
Whenever you encounter something "boring" it's on you as a reader to figure out why it's really not boring. Unless you're reading a shit book, which isn't the case if you're reading Proust.

I don't read

The party in book 3 was boring. Anyone with a brain cell could see what Proust was going for, he had just done the same thing with Balbec…”all that glitters isn’t gold…”. As the reader, I recognize that the quality in every book in different throughout

Just curious, is it mostly speed or time that contributes to the amount of pages you read? What are your circumstances?

>> No.20176149

>>20176071
Time. I'm a neet, but if I'm invested in a book, I can chew through 500+ pages in a day, so I'm not a slow reader, either.
