I need book recommendations.

The best story I've read is The Immortal by Borges. I also liked Color out of Space by Lovecraft. The Caress by Greg Egan was very nice.

The Wind-up Bird Chronicle by Murakami is the best novel I've read so far (his other books suck).

Some stuff that I liked:
1. Texhnolyze
2. Twin Peaks: The Return
3. Evangelion
4. Shin sekai yori (most interesting theories and worldbuilding I've ever seen),
5. Uchouten Kazoku
6. Mawaru Penguindrum

And movies (very few movies are good):
1. The Tree of Life
2. Synecdoche, New York
3. The Thing
4. A Serious Man
5. The Exorcist
6. The Wicker Man (1973)
7. High and Low
8. Harakiri

I plan to read Gravity's Rainbow. I heard Ulysses sucked ass.

I have similar tastes to you in film and anime. Here is a list in no particular order.

-100 years of solitude
-The Time Traveler
- Snow Crash
-Moby Dick
-Notes from Underground
-The Brothers Karamazov
-The Martian Chronicles
-Growth of the Soil
- The Sea Wolf
-Childhoods End

Try Philip K Dick, maybe Ubik

Your r*ddit taste in movies and anime is meaningless. Do the same thing that every newfag should:
>check out the classics
>choose whatever seems interesting to you
>if you like one particular book especially look into the author and check out his other works
>if you liked a certain characteristic among your favorites then look into the subgenre and historical time period for more
So for example:
>"Sound and the fury seems interesting, I'll read that"
>"Wow this was a great book, what about other faulkner works?"
>"Damn nigger this manlet can write! What about other southern gothic stuff?"
Or alternatively:
>"Wow this stream of consciousness stuff is powerful, I should read others who did that!"
And soon enough you will have developed a certain taste that already places you above 90% of this faggot board even if you haven't read as much because most people here just go through the classics like a check list to impress fellow r*dditors and jerk themselves off over how much critically acclaimed literature they have mindlessly flipped through

Don't expect me to watch Satantango and rate it a 10. Film generally sucks as a storytelling medium.

Check out the BFI 100 top films for a useful list of great cinema. The film's in your list are all good, but there is another level of cinema out there that you haven't explored yet.

I did watch a lot of the films on that list actually. I mean how can one enjoy Citizen Kane, it's like reading a half-assed Sumerian text and thinking it's the best piece of fiction of all time. I can't like films based on their influence

Citizen Kane is brilliant, not just because it's influential. It's an incredible, fascinating films. You need to watch it again. But Tokyo Story is probably the best film on the list.

lol your film list is horrendously normie, you aren't even close to being done with the medium unless you consider being literally one step ahead of braindead tarantino watchers as your end point.
also watch Lain. it's the only actually good anime that isn't on your list. actually also watch tenshi no tamago. it's a film but it's weebshit so get that on your list as well.
you astutely observed that murakami is a dogshit hack writer so you may still have a chance lad
