Homosexuality is usually seen as effeminate in peaceful societies but can sometimes be seen as masculine in war-like societies. Perhaps this is because the meaning of homosexuality changes. In a peaceful society, which is more feminine, it is essentially about behaving like a woman. In a war-like society, which is more masculine, it is essentially about avoiding contact with femininity altogether.
