It makes sense. Bored, middle aged Housewives have to do something with their lives and so most of them blog, write, or do art. They also are better at forming a circle jerk cult to elevate their own works or develop cult followings. There is still the occasional good book being written today, but very few. Then again, very few good books were likely being written back then either, it's just that the crappy ones have been lost or forgotten because they didn't stand the test of time.
