It's not a terrible book but it shouldn't take two hours to read either. I knew some guys like George and Lenny personally. "George" was a good person at heart but a bitter on the outside and always had to wrangle "Lenny" and as a result never got to enjoy life much. "Lenny", of course, wasn't a bad person either, but being a "Lenny", he was prone to making people uncomfortable. I don't know where they are now but I think "Lenny" is able to function more on his own now and "George" finally gets some moments of peace. All of Steinbeck's novels make me nostalgic for a California I was never alive to experience. Rather than being 2st century Sodom and Gomorrah, Steinbeck always made California to be a 20th century Garden of Eden. Makes me wonder where it all went so wrong.
