Pre-1990's kids' books...

To oldfags of /lit/, I was just wondering what kids' books you were into before there was such as thing as Harry Potter, Twilight, Goosebumps etc. Personally I was a fan of The Three Investigators and The Famous Five and I was just wondering if you were into The Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew or any of that?

I grew up in the 90s, but I still loved the Three Investigators. Everything else I read was more contemporary, though.

Grew up in the Nineties but loved Three Investigators and Hardy Boys, as well as stuff like John Bellairs, Lloyd Alexander, and Susan Cooper. Also Boxcar Kids.

*deep breath*
Three Investigators, Hardy Boys, Tom Swift, Tarzan/Barsoom/Anything Burroughs, H. Rider Haggard, E.E. 'Doc' Smith, Heinlein's juveniles, Alexander Key, H. Beam Piper, Andre Norton, Fritz Leiber, and many more....

I'm 90s, but I liked Nancy Drew, The Boxcar Children, The Bobbsey Twins, and Little House on the Prairie.

My library had all the chapter book series in their own section, and I pretty much read all of them except the ones about horses or sports.

Dude. Those were the ones where the kids had a secret base in the junkyard and shit right? I loved those.

Yeah, their uncle gave them a caravan and they piled junk on it till everyone forgot it was there and they had a whole forensics lab in there.

Jupiter Jones was a former child star known as "Baby Fatso", and he lives with his Uncle Titus and Aunt Matilda in a junkyard. His best friends are Bob (who has asthma) and Pete (who is a handsome athlete, and the three of them start a private detective agency, and enjoy the patronage of Alfred Hitchcock.

I remember being disappointed when I found out Alfred Hitchcock hadn't written those books.

Nancy Drew made me into the effeminate manchild I am today

I came across "The 3 Investigators - Crimebusters - Hot Wheels" in a bookshop in the mid nineties and they'd all grown up a bit and were about 18 I think. Jupe was still fat, Pete was still a jock but Bob had ditched his glasses, got contact lenses, and become very handsome and all the girls loved him.
