Literally the longest fantasy novel you can imagine. This shit takes FOR FUCKING EVER FOR anything worthwhile to happen. I gave up after they got on the ship in the river. It's written like a long, bad anime.

The first couple of books will hook you with worldbuilding and plot. You'll notice that characters are kind of flat and repetitive, but it doesn't matter much as long as the plot is moving. (Provided you are a fast reader I should say. If you read slowly it might be overwhelming even early on.)

In the second phase of the series, the author's weaknesses become more obvious. He keeps making the world more intricate, adding flat
characters, and fragmenting the narrative into more subplots. The plots themselves become more and more sluggish. There are a number of sub plots stat start in a path of daggers that end in a knife of dreams. That span of four books cover about 2 months of in world time.
Push through.

The third phase of the series is when Sanderson takes over. He spends the first one of his books tidying up Jordan's mistakes. He does it well for the most part but there is so much "See, this happened because of this!" that it takes on a sort of fan-fic vibe at times. At other times, it reads like a criticism.
But Sanderson does rescue the series to my mind. He makes some characters a lot more 3D, and lets a bunch of them become more peripheral, which makes it a much easier read. I found Sanderson's wrapping everything up to be satisfying.

He should just read sandersons stormlight series. Its better and will probably be longer
If he wants a chosen op fantasy the cycle of arawn is better and funnier

It's pretty good for a fantasy. Some parts are written very well, such as the main character's development arc, but other parts are just drab and boring. It's a mixed bag, but it's pretty comfy overall.

>> No.20135154

>>20135114
it's a web serial so they're forced to write at least 2 chapters a week to build and maintain an audience or else be lost in the void. It's how the author amassed over 4800 patrons on patreon. The consistency is machine like if nothing else, and editing is out the window. The premise at least is actually more interesting than the regular garbage isekai power fantasy that pervades the genre so it's not completely soulless.

the women are kind of insufferable but in an anime harem sort of way so if that's your taste it's whatever.
