>just realized that I’ll never have V. with this cover art because first edition costs more than $1k and I never had a job in my life
Why even continue living?

You really don't need that, man.

I will never understand value based on rarity over value based on materials
I understand a 1k book that is leather bound with metal shit on it etc. but 1k for a paperback 1st ed is beyond my comprehension

That’s literally all there is to life and to pretend otherwise is just a massive cope. You acquire a physical thing, like money, pussy, house, funko pop of your favorite comic book hero or the first edition of Pynchon’s V., and you become happy. Then you set your goal to next physical thing to acquire. Rinse and repeat until you are dead.

There is a big difference between buying the land you will live your life out on and defining your life around being a consumer.

I don't care about cover art, I'm more into the physical dimensions. I prefer smaller books that are softer, which makes them easier to read on the off chance that I decide to actually read a book instead of admiring the cover art.
Anyway I have this one, it cost me three good boy points.

I literally threw out a copy last week cause I was cleaning out old books I don't read. I much prefer the newer edition I have, plus the pages aren't all yellow and gross.

What’s wrong with a later edition for $5 used. That’s a $1000 USED book.

First editions usually have the best cover. It's not really different from paying thousands of dollars on a painting.

Yeah I like that cover a lot too, if it makes you feel better apparently it has errors in it. Pic related is probably the next best thing and you can find it for like $3
