Life is a debt that we all pay to death, in that way it is a gift and we are obligated to not squander it. That doesn't mean working or going to Latin Mass or reading the Upanishads, it means something different for everyone. The other answer is that life is about people, not ideas.

"What is the meaning of life" is better phrased as "How to live a meaningful life". The former question is passively waiting to encounter an answer, while the latter reminds you of your agency. The latter question can only be answered by you, treat life as a blank sheet of paper and treat yourself as an artist trying to paint the most meaningful piece. Because it is ultimately your standpoint that will shape your life's meaning, there will necessarily be a component of self-transformation.

A few words of advice, reconnect with your child-like sense of wonder, and explore the magic of creativity. Contemplate your death and visualize your hands rotting away. Bask in the possibilities which are slowly decaying by your own mortality and choose.

What do you value more? Truth or happiness? I'm just now realizing that having both might just be unrealistic. I've always searched for what's true and honestly I have no idea why, it's not making me any happier, in fact it's probably making things harder and always has.

No one knows. Don't bother trying to find out through reading, or 'experiencing', or doing anything at all in fact. As long as you are alive, you will never know.

To me there are two sides of the same coin the only "truth" I'm interested in is the practical insights that allow me to be happy. Truths such as which way to heat a room, how to cook a steak the way I like it, useful generalizations of human behaviour - like it's better to use open ended questions to continue a conversation, or financial "truths" like 'liquid cash always loses value except during a depression' - these are all truths that can make happiness more attainable either directly or indirectly.
I mean anything which is a fairy workable principle that allows you to operate in reality is "truthful" right? It may not be as sexy as ideas of transcendence and spiritual imperatives, but I think they are still "truth" in the most basic sense of the word, synonymous with the "right answer" or something that can be confirmed by observation, yeah?
