Agreed. V. would be a remarkable accomplishment for an 80-year-old, let alone someone just out of high school.

good book, I truly believe it is one of his better ones

Don't be sad, be glad for the emergence of the spirit that managed to create 'V.' in the shit we call world.

Most MFA students are pretty good anon. You should've gone to college.

And it really shows. This is my favorite of Pynchon's work but it is very flawed as a novel, filled with ridiculous things that serve no real purpose and makes no real sense to the whole, but it has chapters like Confessions of Fausto Maijstral which are absolutely amazing. Pynchon did not seem to really understand the form, or had lost a clear picture of his own work, hard to say, we can see how he improved on this in works to come so we know he also saw it is a flaw, but that is all we can know at this time.

All he really needs to do is take the time to fully analyze a single novel in autistic detail, but college has other benefits.

Who gives a fuck what age he wrote it? All that matters is the quality of the work. Age is completely irrelevant. A work of art is not better or worse because of the age someone created it. Wallace Stevens published his first book of poems at 43 years old. That doesn't make them better, or worse, nor does it demonstrate anything about the author.

And it really shows. To me, Pynchon isn't a serious novelist. I get more out of a single chapter by Faulkner than I get from the entirety of any of Pynchon's doorstoppers. They're just goofy, meandering diversions.

Relax bro a lot of authors have different backgrounds. It's okay if you were not writing well then. Keep at it and in 3 years or even 8 years youre gonna make it. Prioritize your reading and writing!

Producing a high quality work at a young age is impressive, especially to talentless MFAs and high school readers, let alone washed up boomers who never produced anything worth reading at any age

Says who? It is irrelevant. It's not a competition.
