PoS is, more than most all works of philosophy, and certainly both the greater and lesser Logics, an affective work, a type of therapy. To be sure, coming into being of the Absolute is a historical process, but it's also a journey for an individual.

The most shallow readings of PoS, arguments that it is just a polemic against epistemological realism, are clearly off. We don't need to go into Antigone and the French Revolution to understand that, we are taken there because the treatment is affective and logical.

The goal in terms of the individual shows up fairly explicitly towards the end of the Preface.

This isn't a far out take, you see it in as diverse takes as Hackett (the Ladder) and Bernstein.

>Can you say why?
I think it’s a mixture of things, I’m biased towards enjoying the framework of the story because i had marine biology training before med school and I’ve always loved maritime stories and the sea. But I think I’d still love it if it were set on the savannah or Eurasian steppe hunting a great white elephant or a great white horse, it’s an entertainingly written book, witty/funny and containing beautifully descriptive and evocative prose, the narrative is compelling too but it’s the way all of the elements combine under what seems to me a central conceit, the many things we can make of the universe from our many different (and limited) perspectives.
>Moby Dick filtered me hard but I just enjoyed the literary boat kino so I dont care.
That’s most of what you need really, but some of the more subtle jokes don’t really make sense if you aren’t a little familiar with western philosophy, Christian, classical, and enlightenment (“plato’s honeyed head” or the joke about sperm whales being Spinozists)
> Pretentikus faggot I know goes "lmao you didn't get the whale was god? Maybe you should read it again," and im like "yeah whatever fruitcake, im gonna read the crows nest chapter on repeat you can't stop me,"
“Whale is God” is quite reductive, i think it’s meant to be intentionally unclear and open to interpretation what the whale truly represents, because the varied interpretations of reality is an important theme in the book, I’ve heard most convincingly that the whale is representational of ontotheology or the barrier to ontotheology, ie the whale isn’t just God but rather what separates man from God and absolute, certain, divine truth, because the whale is different things to different people, there is no single understanding of what the whale is just as there is no single perfect understanding of the nature of reality because everyone experiences and observed it differently. I think that “The Whiteness of the Whale” is the most important chapter for this interpretation.
>the crows nest/mast head
That chapter is almost certainly a critique of the (at the time) very large trancendentalist movement

Tampa by Alyssa Nutting. Lolita is a book about a male pedophile written by some Russian dude and its a literary MASTERPIECE. He never DIRECTLY writes about the sex. It's just a book about going on hard hikes, swinging back and forth, and wet caves.
But Alyssa wrote a fucking SMUT NOVEL. She wrote about a female pedophile and just went for it and its fucking disgusting. The russian dude at least had some class.. ur acting like this is a situation that would lead to a cringey answer that would turn her off. this might be true, unless, of course, you happen to be physically attractive. the fact is, all of your hobbies look attractive to women as long as ur hot. u fish? if ur hot, it looks manly and rugged. u play pinball? if ur hot, it’s a cute hobby that makes u look playful and fun. ur into fucking D&D and magic the gathering? if ur hot, then you’ll get some points with the girls who say they like “nerdy” guys. reading is no different. if u read, and ur hot, then u seem intellectual and interesting. otherwise, u look like a beta bitch nerd who belongs in the library. women are simple, and it’s remarkable it’s taking u idiots so long to understand this. “the art hoes don’t like me even though i read so much sophisticated literature!!” u might say. have u considered the fact that ur repulsive physical appearance simply poisons any activity that u take part in? there is nothing more pathetic than a pale pimply faced fatass reading Kant, as if hoes, even the purported “artsy” hoes, are going to give a flying fuck that u know what the categorical imperative is. A hot guy reading Kant? the art hoes will cream their pants over how interesting and intellectual you are.

unironically this
I had more girls pay attention to me when I was in a relationship than when I wasn't in a relationship, even if I was by myself out in public. I groomed myself more, payed more attention to my physical appearance, did face masks/start a skincare routine, bought new clothes etc., and surprise surprise, women were paying more attention to me than ever.
Women will notice the small details, so if you work on those small details she'll think highly of you.

>you were very lucky to have a supportive mother
I know, I was extra lucky that the last year of her life I happened to be staying with her after university while I applied for later courses and got work experience, I don’t feel there was anything really left unsaid, and I made the most of the time I had with her, we didn’t miss out on each other’s company even though her time was much shorter than she deserved. I know she knew how much I loved her and how much I appreciated her,

I’ve always had a thing for books like Moby Dick, Hunger and The Trial where the text can be read straight or metaphorically. They become biblical at times. I also hate Kafka when I first read him

My recent favorite is Piranesi, so that's my goto whenever someone asks. It's about a guy trapped in a seemingly infinite mansion with a lower floor partially sunk in the ocean, a crumbling top floor, and filled with statues all over.

I don't have one. I don't read for pleasure, I read to know. Having a favorite book would be like having a favorite Euclidean axiom or a favorite kind of cancer. In fact when I read I usually feel boredom, anger, or sadness, healthy human emotions when confronted with the truth.

She's so hot, OP. Imagine her underdeveloped, freckled little chicken legs forced wide for the pulsating mass of coal that will ingratiate itself into her, morph and twist her innocence into bestial lust, her pale as Snow supple pussy swallowing that black steaming rod whole and clinging to it like a bitch in heat as some hulking ebony mastiff mates and deflowers her. Imagine her little face, so innocent, cursing and screaming for a harder pummelling and rutting from her tribal dominators, as their thick black mass erupts it’s primal seed into her crimson pure pale genetic womb, staining that perfect little lineage, forever marking generations of delicate white lily flowers with steaming ape spunk, imagine her sweating and screaming as those child-like hips birth a half-black child, forever staking the black man’s claim to her lineage.

What you wrote here is better known as teen angst verbalised. If someone asks a simple question, it is absolutely not neccessary to prove how complex an individual you are, because I can assure you they won't really care. Just pick a fucking book, everyone is in the same boat when it comes to favourite things.

>Moby Dick filtered me hard but I just enjoyed the literary boat kino so I dont care.
The literary boat kino is why Moby Dick is a timeless masterpiece. All the POONDERING is there only to give boat kino some place to breathe.

People who read Moby Dick for "Captain's mates as a discussion on the abrahamic family hierarchy and conflict" or "the existential dread of Rachel's search" are the ones who got really filtered,

You’re meant to read it as both and enjoy both, the book is about the limit of human comprehension and how perspective varies too much for absolute truth, which is WHY being comfy is what truly matters, that’s why Ishmael and Queequeg’s friendship is so positive, it’s not interrogative
