I'm wondering why is it recommended to start here? Sorry if it's a stupid question, I'm just curious.

It isn't. Start with the Greeks.

Why Greeks instead of bronze?

NTA but the greeks are the foundation for all of western literature. Bronze age is cool but most of the ones on that chart never seriously impacted the western canon.

The Near East is the origin of many important aspects of human history: agriculture, writing, empire-building, and so on. Understanding the processes that created these tells you much about other eras of history.

Only if you completely exclude the Hebrew Bible.

I feel this is fundamentally wrong. Many of the greek gods and aspects of greek culture are strongly influenced by the bronze age mesopotamians for one. Not to mention the cultural exchange, crossmigrations and the transferrance of many elements during the migratory period known as the bronze age collapse.

Everybody has heard of Zeus. But people are going to stop talking to you if you start going on about icknû the balash of traijunki. Unless you're pursuing a career in Assyriology there is no reason to read anything other than the Epic of Gilgamesh.
