My great grandparent who has raised me all my life is hours away from death in the room next door. Trying to remain strong through the transition. Any books for this feel? I consider myself a spiritual person. I believe in reincarnation and the possibility of a "heaven", maybe not in a christian sense, but I'm still having trouble with conceptualizing death and mortality. I've never dealt with death first-hand like this.

Existentialism perhaps, read some Dostoevsky (I recommend Humiliated and Insulted, one of his lesser known but more accessible works) or perhaps Absurdism is worth your consideration as well, read The Myth of Sisyphus, or at least the last two paragraphs and recite them until they bring you peace. At least that's what I do.

Otherwise, if you just want to feel edgy and sad, read some Cioran. The Trouble with Being Born. (Don't recommend unless you can handle it and are just looking for an outlet to express yourself/someone to relate to)

Rings of Saturn by W.G. Sebald. Just read it all the way through. Don't question why I recommended it in the beginning or even the middle. Once you finish it and reflect on what you read, you will understand.

Thanks anon, I'm a third into The Brother Karamazov, I may pick up Humiliated and Insulted after I finish it. Probably should save notes from the underground for later eh? I'm not too well read on Absurdism, so it's hard to believe that there's no essential "meaning" to existence even in such a vast chaotic universe. I'm open-minded enough to give the book a shot though.

I'm convinced, I'll check if my uni has it in the library
