what are your thoughts on IT?
is it worth reading, i mean over 1000 pages seems a bit too much in my attention deficit disordered opinion

>> No.2004467

eeehhhhhh
if you like king, go for it

>> No.2004478

King is a genius. My personal favorite writer of the last 100 years. But he has trouble being terse sometimes. Take the unedited version of The Stand, for instance.

>> No.2004481

>>2004449
King's the most overrated author in America. All of his characters are essentially the same, there's always some benevolent retard or somebody else with a disability. Everyone always goes on about how great "the Stand" is, in reality the book sucks. Ending is one of the worst I've ever read.

>> No.2004483

I like Stephen king and i couldn't even finish this book.

I don't mind king but yes he must always have a retard and a shit ending.
I like him though but can see his flaws.

Wow, of the last hundred years, really? He's not even my favorite writer of the last two or three years, though I read a ton of his stuff years ago. Not insulting you, that's just a really strong statement.

>>2004491
how the hell can "personal favourite" be a strong statement?

King has written a couple of decent horror stories, my favourite being Gerald's Game. But if you really want to shit bricks, read Graham Masterton, especially what he wrote during the 80s and 90s.

The orgy scene in the sewers toward the end was weird, especially how King tried to hang the entire meaning of "IT" on that one scene.

>> No.2004871

Nothing by King is worth reading.

>> No.2004884

"It" is a fun read. Over all it has very likeable characters and there's a lot of development in each of them. Learning about the history of the city and the history of "it" is also interesting.

It's not great literature, but it's entertaining.

He doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about. Ignore that comment. _It_ is a good book.

>> No.2004915

It was fine, and I could look past all the gay sex/blowjobs between dudes in the junkyard while some little kids watched.

But shit, what was up with that sewer scene?
>Wait! Before we go and face it...
>I want all of you to fuck me and cum in me uguu~~
Seriously, they were like twelve too, weren't they? Shit was strange. Then it's just never really brought up again.

"And she feels the thing begin to happen - something of which the girls who whisper and giggle about sex in the girls' room have no idea, at least as far as she knows; they only marvel at how gooshy sex must be, and now she realizes that for many of them sex must be some unrealized undefined monster; they refer to the act as It."

Sexual undertones?

Sounds like he was just rying to save his skin.

>> No.2005154

>>2004934
You know, I'd be a lot more tempted to believe that if the reason he gave for it being there WAS JUST ONE LINE IN A WELL OVER ONE THOUSAND PAGE BOOK.

>"Oh, btw "It" is sex."

Also, would that make the turtle a condom? The entire concept of "It" being sex just makes everything kind of lame. The entire town is so emotionally and sexually repressed that they create a monster that murders people? Just because they don't talk about sex? Or, more specifically, because a small group of high school girls whisper about sex in locker rooms? It's just lame.

>uguu~ please fill me up

>> No.2005173

>>2005154
It doesn't represent sex, but sex was the only way to escape It as It was only a demon to children or something and sex was a metaphorical pathway to adulthood. Or something like that. I haven't read it in a couple years

>> No.2005428

It's pretty good, one of King's best, still my favorite of his.

If you've read any of King's other pre-van novels, you have an idea what you're getting into. Good entertaining build-up, areas of excessive rambling, dumb forced ending.

But overall a pretty good read.

>> No.2005431

>>2005173

It's best not to overthink it. I'm pretty sure King wrote this at the peak of a drug-using days.

>> No.2005497

I've read It and really liked it. It felt much shorter than it really was. I also enjoyed Bag of Bones.

Then I bought Dreamcatcher because it sounded interesting, but then I saw its reviews and I kinda don't feel like starting it. Is it really that bad?

>> No.2005515

>>2005497
Who the hell listens to reviews? Read IT, it's a great book. king is a master at character development and scenery description. He really puts you in the setting. His endings aren't always the greatest but it doesn't even really matter that much because the rest of the strories are great.

>> No.2005559

I like It. It's really long, though, and some parts are trying my patience, but wading through them has usually been moderately rewarding.

I got bored after reading about half, and started reading other novels, but I'm planning to finish it after I'm done with the Nabokov novel I'm reading atm (dem adjectives).

>> No.2005837

i read that book in like 5th/6th grade and it scared the shit out of me. but it was a good book then and i'm sure it still is. i say go for it

You've never been around Puritans and Catholics, obviously.

People not understanding the fear and hatred and repression that can surround sexuality just don't remember the Church.
