>the single best anthology of ancient literature of all time
>the most studied book of all time
>much easier to read than most ancient literature
>contains the most beautiful ancient poetry
>all in all the single most influential book to ever exist
>not read in schools because it's "some people don't believe in it"
why are people like this? EVERYONE should read this book, idgaf if you believe in it or not but it is on of the best books ever made, even from an atheist view it is utterly beautiful. Worse yet if it was read in schools people would say "wElll wHY nOT tHe quR'an?? Qur'an was written by one pedophile, the bible is a colection of beautiful ancient literature. Honestly the more I think about it the more it pisses me off.

It's not "people," it's non-Christians and communists/critical theorists. The best way to destroy a nation is to subvert its system of education, which is not merely memorization of facts but also formation of good character and ethics. School days USED TO start with a prayer, and americans USED TO not be drug addicted catatonics in front of a screen. Simple fact is the US is a declining empire and destroying its prosperity is part of jumping ship. A certain (((people))) have been at this for many decades.

>> No.20028975

I thought it was enjoyable and surprisingly easy to read. I was impressed how from Adam and Eve all the way to Joseph of Egypt it was only a few pages and the story flows nicely. Then I reached Exodus.Yes the part about the plagues and the parting of the sea was quite enjoyable but after that it goes into some very painful details about the construction of the temple and its architectural features and the rituals and how the priest should dress. I thought it would get better but moving on to Leviticus it actually got worse. I completely lost interest when I was several chapters into it and reading the 12th variation of how to sacrifice a goat for forgiveness and it suddenly started describing scab wounds and leprosy and the corresponding sacrificial ritual to deal with that.
It's such a snoozefest and it makes no sense either because not even Orthodox Jews practice those rituals with discipline any more so I don't even know who those are aimed yet.

I haven't picked it up again ever since but I might. I hope Leviticus is the last chapter where this happens because I wouldn't be able to stand another diatribe on what clothes to wear if a priest finds mildew in your house.

Also whenever a lay person claims they read the Bible from start to finish I have a suspicion they either went straight to the New Testament or just read an abridged, "modern English" version of the old one.

Why would a "demon" tell people to worship God and only God? Why would a "demon" tell people that the greatest sin they could possibly commit, would be to worship something other than God, the creator of the universe, or to ascribe equals or partners to the one true God? Why would a "demon" tell people to pray to God five times a day, and to constantly remember him? Why would a "demon" so assiduously remind people to keep up their prayers to God and to pay alms to the poor? Why would a "demon" so assiduously remind people that they will be judged for the actions of their life, and that they had better act with a clear conscience and moral scruples or they will be cast into Hell? Why would an evil demon tell people to be good, to pay charity, to remember the one true God, to honour their mother and father, to treat all people with equal respect, etc? Why would a "demon" so assiduously tell people not to do mind altering substances, lest they fall under the influence of demons? Hmmmmm interesting..... Why would a "demon" tell people to avoid black magic like the plague, or they will literally be punished in Hell by a benevolent deity? Hmmm that doesn't sound like something a 'demon' would say. Why would a "demon" tell everyone to esteem spiritual matters above earthly matters, to be an upstanding citizen, to abstain from sexual immorality, to avoid magic, etc etc? Why would a "demon" make billions of people pray daily to God to ask him to guard them from the influence of demons? You have read the Quran, right? You know what it actually contains, right? You really didn't think this through, moron.

>my grandma must have read it through like at least half a dozen times and she isn't even educated beyond like 8th grade or something.
This brings up a touch of nuance we need to address, the few people who actually do read the bible usually are literal NPCs who are just running their eyes over the words and not thinking. They have a very low standard of reading and they are not internalizing it.

The only non-professor I have met who claimed to have read the bible was this random guy I talked to while having a cigarette and he said it was the only book he ever read (weird statement given that this was a college student) and that he had read it 5 times. I was curious so I asked him to give me a brief analysis of it and he just stared right through me like it was a foreign concept to him.

This principle is the same reason many people here will tell you they read way faster as kids, they simply had a lower standard for what constituted 'reading' and were just going through the motions without thinking until something jumped out at them.

I think a lot of the Bible hate comes from the politics surrounding it and not the actual contents of the book. Zealots that quote the Bible to justify their own views scare other people away from the text ("If I read this book I'll end up just like them, etc...")

I read The Lotus Sutra in one day and read analyses multiple times. I can barely get through the Bible or Koran without feeling genocidal thoughts.
I hate Christ, Muhammad, Moses, and so forth more than all "heretics" combined throughout the entirety of history. I'd slaughter all of their children and women without a shred of remorse. There is no such thing as a good Christian, Muslim, or Jew. All of you will eat shit and suffer for thousands upon thousands of kalpas, icchantika filth. My compassion is the sword to your neck when you least expect it.

I'm saying most don't even bother to lie, they're open about it. Mostly I just hear ridiculous excuses, my favorite was "each verse has 1000 meanings!", as in, it takes 1000x time to read it as a normal book of the same length because you have to sit there going through the 1000 meanings of
>“You shall have a place outside the camp, and you shall go out to it. And you shall have a trowel with your tools, and when you sit down outside, you shall dig a hole with it and turn back and cover up your excrement. Because the Lord your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you and to give up your enemies before you, therefore your camp must be holy, so that he may not see anything indecent among you and turn away from you"

I dunno anon
15 Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the Lord, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

2 The Lord is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him.

3 The Lord is a man of war: the Lord is his name.

4 Pharaoh's chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea.

5 The depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone.

6 Thy right hand, O Lord, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O Lord, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.

7 And in the greatness of thine excellency thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee: thou sentest forth thy wrath, which consumed them as stubble.

8 And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea.

9 The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.

10 Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them: they sank as lead in the mighty waters.

11 Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?

12 Thou stretchedst out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them.

13 Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation.

14 The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Palestina.

15 Then the dukes of Edom shall be amazed; the mighty men of Moab, trembling shall take hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Canaan shall melt away.

16 Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be as still as a stone; till thy people pass over, O Lord, till the people pass over, which thou hast purchased.

17 Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place, O Lord, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established.

18 The Lord shall reign for ever and ever.

19 For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the Lord brought again the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea.

20 And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.

21 And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

This also appeals to me:

1 The song of songs, which is Solomon's.

2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine.

3 Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.

4 Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.

5 I am black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon.

6 Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother's children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept.

7 Tell me, O thou whom my soul loveth, where thou feedest, where thou makest thy flock to rest at noon: for why should I be as one that turneth aside by the flocks of thy companions?

8 If thou know not, O thou fairest among women, go thy way forth by the footsteps of the flock, and feed thy kids beside the shepherds' tents.

9 I have compared thee, O my love, to a company of horses in Pharaoh's chariots.

10 Thy cheeks are comely with rows of jewels, thy neck with chains of gold.

11 We will make thee borders of gold with studs of silver.

12 While the king sitteth at his table, my spikenard sendeth forth the smell thereof.

13 A bundle of myrrh is my well-beloved unto me; he shall lie all night betwixt my breasts.

14 My beloved is unto me as a cluster of camphire in the vineyards of Engedi.

15 Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves' eyes.

16 Behold, thou art fair, my beloved, yea, pleasant: also our bed is green.

17 The beams of our house are cedar, and our rafters of fir.

I mean come on this is great:

2 I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys.

2 As the lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters.

3 As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.

4 He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love.

5 Stay me with flagons, comfort me with apples: for I am sick of love.

6 His left hand is under my head, and his right hand doth embrace me.

7 I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please.

8 The voice of my beloved! behold, he cometh leaping upon the mountains, skipping upon the hills.

9 My beloved is like a roe or a young hart: behold, he standeth behind our wall, he looketh forth at the windows, shewing himself through the lattice.

10 My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.

11 For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone;

12 The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land;

13 The fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.

14 O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely.

15 Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.

16 My beloved is mine, and I am his: he feedeth among the lilies.

17 Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, turn, my beloved, and be thou like a roe or a young hart upon the mountains of Bether.

I wasn't the guy who said that but obviously that was hyperbole, that's why I threw in with him. You actually are a sperg if you don't understand that but truth is you're just seething and want to pull at threads.

No is even trying to deny the claim that most non-scholars who read the bible several times are barely absorbing any of it. That anecdote I gave was horrifyingly true, he was a legit NPC and had no thoughts about it to share despite having read it 5 times (of which he was bragging).

Let me lay out my model, you have very few people left over who have read the bible cover-to-cover if you exclude
>People just reading it in a perfunctory way to 'get it over with' without thinking
>People whose job it is part of (professors, priests)
>non-christians who read it out of literary curiosity (I'm planning to join this category)
>former christians who read it and then began to think for themselves and left
What's left is mostly black people, by the way. Black churches actually make a big deal about the bible and you will meet otherwise poorly read black people who have read it and can tell you about it.

In the Christian conception you have God the father, God the son (Jesus) and God the spirit. Why would a demon tell people to worship one of the "Godheads"? Why wouldnt they demon just tell people to worship something(s) completely else entirely? And from a Christian perspective why would it matter if you just worship one of the trinity? Moses only ever makes mention of worshipping one God as an example. He also died before Christ was even born so couldnt accept him, is he damned? So, so so moronic beyond belief
