The modern world is more inventice, industrious, and cruel than ever. It's just that individuals don't get to make outsized contributions anymore. Instead or genius inventors, we have teams of relatively anonymous scientists. We still have our wonderful captains of industry except now the most famous ones are generally responsible for dumb shit, and generally don't flaunt their ridiculous wealth.
