I must have been out of the Goosebumps phase by the time The Curse of Camp Cold Lake came out. Pic related was always my favorite.

That one was a great one many a nights did I stay up late being spooked out of my mind. This one had a twist I never saw coming. Maybe one of the biggest.

Cold Lake is a strong one. The scene where she wakes up in the future/another world after supposedly drowning is very good. However the ending is a huge let-down that reduces it to a 4/5.
How I Learned to Fly is an easy 5/5 although it's a strange one because it's not strictly horror.

I could have sworn I saw the name of a ghostwriter on the inside cover of one of the CYOA books. Maybe I'm mixing it up in my memory with Animorphs.

When I read it recently I knew the twist so it lessened the impact somewhat. Still, it's really something. I also noticed King Jellyjam is genuinely fucking gross. The part about him sweating snails made me a little nauseous.

Goosebumps is definitely what got kid me into reading. I tried to read one ONCE when I was an adult and I just couldn’t stand it. Very basic and not interesting for adult me.

Very happy for its influence though. His fear street and other books aimed at a older teenage audience are still readable for an adult IMO

H. P. Lovecraft is not scary though. Every story is the same- an educated man records how he stumbled upon some rednecks who worship some pagan deity.
