>play vidya for 4 hours straight

Does anyone else struggle with this?

I usually read standing up, pacing as I would if on the phone.
I can't sit and do it, maybe if I'm outside but the idea of lying in bed or comfy by the fire, yes puts me to sleep in 20 minutes.

>> No.20001470

I haven’t played video games since the start of the year. They’re just boring to me these days and a waste of time, I instantly feel joyless when I turn my Xbox on. Still use my phone way too much though. I find it easier to read when I’ve got a diverse range of activities throughout my day, i.e. instrument practice, studying, socialising, walking, exercise etc. I think your problem might be the fact that reading just doesn’t provide the instant stimulation that video games provide, you have to train yourself into engagement with the text. One thing that works for me if I’m getting bored is I take notes on the text and then I’m forced to be actively engaged rather than just expecting passive entertainment.

Then read for 15. Stop for 5 minutes and start again. If you keep doing this every day for 1 to 2 hours you will get used to it. I had the same thing after I stopped reading for like a year

also that is a tranny

You're comparing words on paper to a flashy children's toy designed by hundreds of people to specifically rape the dopamine receptors in your brain with a constant trickle of perceived rewards and illusory accomplishments to keep you playing.

I drank an espresso an hour or so ago. Gonna try and stay up till 2:30ish tonight for the sake of reading. I'm doing a self-imposed challenge to read exclusively books about Catholicism for Lent, and I've still got 2 and a half to go before I'm onto my first Catholic book. The espresso is kind of making me vibrate right now, but it always does at this stage. The shit they give you at Dunkin tastes like blood but it's not awful if you take it as a shot. .

>feel sleepy
>put my head down
>feel the seconds slipping away ever closer to death
>turn the light back on and read for 4 hours until I literally can't keep my eyes open
>pass out, get insufficient sleep, tired all next day
>repeat

This is the real problem. I'm thinking I might have to go no-electricity and no-artificial-lighting so that I'm forced to sleep like humans are supposed to.

Videogames are engineered to get you addicted. They provide you a system of simple dopamine hits, entrain you to certain stimulus' and keep you hooked on it forever

Whereas when you read, there is no immediate reward. Sometimes there is no reward period, even after reading for days on end. It becomes up to you to create the reward
