What do you think the long term implications of the various Freedom Convoys will be? I saw someone say they thought it was a rekindling of "2015 energy" but honestly I got more of a 2009 Tea Party vibe from the whole thing. Do you think it represents a burgeoning Big Tent push back against technocratic managerialism like some people, is it going to bring political discourse on bio-ethics beyond worn out groove of abortion? Will it have next to no lasting impact?

It seems many people from all over the political spectrum are trying to augur some kind of profound insight in to the future of politics from the event, but I honestly don't know.

so there was this hot leftist chick at my school, she said the dumbest shit and was a cunt to everyone, so everyone laughed at her and it was incredibly easy to "own" her. basically she'd get mad at you for something and word it in the most retarded way possible, even the most beta asslicker didn't take her shit because nobody liked her.
she had the greatest milkers I've ever bore witness to though, and a pair of lipglossed dicksucking lips and a cute face, this is why it seems strange to me that nobody liked her. did she fuck and suck every chad even when they so openly made fun of her?
anyway, it was very strange to disagree with her, felt like she was going to turn into a dominatrix and start pegging me. I think that's how I got the femdom fetish actually.

The way it works is if a girl is attracted to you she will signal it to you and then it is your turn to move. I've never "made the first move" with any girl ever, whatever that even means. I don't try to start a relationship with a girl that shows no signs of attraction.

>what I am confused by is the fact that she had sexual relations with people that always talked down to her. not in any observably "hot" way either, they'd call her cringy and obnoxious.

>I have a lot of difficulty distinguishing between women signaling they want me to be their friend or their boyfriend.

They're either attracted to you or they aren't and that's the end of it my dude. The number of men and women who can be exclusively platonic friends is incredibly small, especially for the guy who will basically be always willing to jump on the girl if she ever gives him an in(that's why he's her "friend" whether she is aware of it or not).

what's even sadder is realizing that your abuser legitimately tried to be good, they just didn't know how. That heavy weight as the anger fades an what's left is pity.
Even the cleansing fire of hate is taken, leaving you with nothing but disappointment and the knowledge that their incompetence laid waste to both of your lives.

I've always resented being asked to tell people who I am. I recall a lot of conversations and school projects that entailed that kind of question. It's annoyed me because the only way to really answer is to present myself not as a holistic being but instead as disparate dispositions loosely strung together. I've always felt forced to atomize myself into the most superficial pieces of little factoids. I thought the term "boyfriend resume" was really funny because it seems like thats what the entire process is. I spent x years doing this and y years over here. But thats not really what a person is.
I've had the fortune to be intimate with people before. My knowledge of them seemed more an intuition than a collection of facts. It was a feeling. I remember being close to one girl and it was like I could read her mind. Every motion was part of a greater whole. This intuitive understanding of another cannot be replicated by listing out a resume. I could give you a short autobiography. Even given that you know about me does not mean you know me. Your question "what kind of bf are you and what kind of gf would want that" is hopelessly impossible to answer without immediate experience of the person directly. In order to know what kind of guy I am you just have to get to know me with interaction, not interview.

Words can't be defined WITH WORDS. people think that Truth is in propositions, i.e. only statements are true. But Truth is identity. when you say A is B, that's true because A and B are the same thing, so A is True in and of itself by virtue of being itself. So, to define words you say, "A tree is that" and it rests on the fact that whoever you are talking to also has sight and can see the tree's identity and knows that "a tree is that" is true and learns that "tree" means the identity of what you are pointing to.

>> No.19972381

Yes. Even prepositions. 'of' clearly has a different meaning to 'with', while we can't semiotically and literally with an index finger point to a thing and say "this is what 'of' means" like we can with nouns - 'dog', 'cat', 'bussy', 'whale'. Or more abstractly show qualities or behaviors - 'hot', 'cold', 'blue', 'fret noise', 'fucking', 'crying', 'running', 'tripping', 'break up'. We can narrow down the meaning of prepositions by means of contrast.
If I wanted to get Derrida on your ass, I'd go into the etymology of 'Define'
>from Old French defenir, definir "to finish, conclude, come to an end; bring to an end
it is the cognate of course of 'finish', the 'definition' of the word is that which exists between points. Much like a 'race' exists between the start and finish line.

>World War III was fought in an era where various factions were known to control their military with narcotics. Among the parties involved was the Eastern Coalition (also referred to as "the ECON"), whose direct attacks included those against the United States of America. In 2026, at the start of the war, Colonel Phillip Green led a faction of eco-terrorists that was responsible for the loss of thirty-seven million lives. Green continued to be active several years after the war ended.
>When news of the Vulcan contact reached Vulcan, some Vulcans, including V'Lar, were fascinated by Humanity, but also worried, believing the idea that Humans had deemed themselves ready to join the interstellar community, so soon after the war, seemed premature. Indeed, for several years after first contact, various parts of Earth were still affected by what became known as the "post-atomic horror." In 2079, one such culture reverted to a state of near-barbarism that followed the credo "kill all the lawyers," and "guilty until proven innocent." Due to these and other factors, parts of Earth continued to be in – as Captain Jean-Luc Picard put it in 2365 – "chaos" well into the early 22nd century.

I was a humble Cambodian rice farmer fleeing the Pol Pot regime. On March 9th 1980 I got off the ferry and set foot in America. My first stop was the University of California at Berkeley. I was a big fan of the revolutionary music of San Francisco and psychedelic rock like Bob Dylan, Woodstock, Jimi Hendrix, Timothy Leary, and all the other cool dudes I read about in smuggled samizdat and only heard fragments of on distorted imported Hong Kong 8 track bootlegs. I had to sell 3 cows to pay for trip, which harmed my grandparents income, but they did it for a better life for me.

My plan was to go to Berkeley, become a musician and find fame and fortune. I would join a cool rock band and have a long career as a lead vocalist, making tons of money and being very famous, all while looking super hot like John Travolta. Then I would marry my true love, a girl who looked like Janis Joplin, and live in an estate by the water with my beautiful wife. As a singer I would be very popular and get lots of awards for my outstanding musical ability, then I would be asked to open for Bruce Springsteen. When I stepped off the pier, my first instinct was to locate the university. I asked a local hippie who reminded me of the great American movies. “You better get the fuck outta here while you still can,” he said. I then asked him if he knew Jimi Hendrix. Then he kicked me in the shins.

Very similar situation.
two options
1. Get a hobby. Go out into stimulating environments and do stuff, make progress, feel good about progress.
2. Psychoanalyze the form rather than the content of the thoughts you ruminate on. If you remember something embarrassing or hurtful in the past, think "what does that mean for me today?" and "what brought this to the forefront of mind mind right now?". Don't ask any questions about the thought or it's content specifically. If you're having a horrific flashback to the time you people laughed at you because you misinterpreted "Absinthe" as "Ab Synth" like a synthesizer played on Abdominal muscles. The important stuff isn't Absinthe, Abdominals, or Synthesizers - but the feeling of embarrassment and what that makes you feel today? Why of all the embarrassing memories did this one come to mind? And why does it still hurt? When you remember an argument you had with someone, why does it linger with you? Is it because you're unsure of your own position and you fear they were right? Or is it a Gell-Mann Amnesia thing where you realize that if you're so solid in your position and they can argue so passionately against it, that there might be other things you're wrong on even if this position is 'right'? Or soemthing else: what that something else is you need to find.

I actually do re-read some Hesse novels for comfiness, now that I think about it more. But they're all 50/50 between making me feel good versus reinforcing my desire to kill myself.

Words:
---------
Can words actually be defined?

Nope. That Which Transcends Being does Not Think. Words have to be grounded in something prelingual, just as being must be grounded.

On consciousness
------------------
Conscious thoughts, like exhaust from a combustion engine, are a waste product. Prepare for sublimation

by saying that consciousness can be conscious of consciousness (an infinite regress, I assume) you are saying that consciousness can be separate from consciousness. To choose a different example, a dead person cannot die since they’re already dead.

>What is the relationship between the brain and mind?
Impossible to understand properly without further distinctions. In particular, between the mind as the psychological aspect of men, and the intellect, which is explored by this psychology.
The brain is the neurological center of the body, it's job, put in a teleological way, is to receive inputs, predict the next ones it will receive, and produce outputs in order to reduce the prediction discrepancy.
The mind is the internal life of conscious objects. It's job is to unite and synthesize all inputs and outputs into a single flux, especially given that the majority of other objects that matters most for our kind of objects are the kind that *also* have an internal life. The projection of the intuitive immediacy of our consciousness unto other objects to constitute them into subjects is a cornerstone of our existential strategy.
Finally, the mind gives us access, as transcendence located within immanence, to the field of the pure intellect. We all encounter (I should hope so) at various moments of our conscious life entities which have no equivalent in real life. Numbers. Categories. Kinds. The concept of evaluation itself. These are located neither within the physical world or within your psychological life (which is an extension of the physical world, really). The very idea of "location" makes very little sense at all. The intellect is revealed through the use of our mental abilities in encountering the world, especially our linguistic ones, it is located, if you wish to talk about it at all, within the language itself, as a pure Eidos.
Plato + Husserl is the truth.

> Is there consciousness of the consciousness of consciousness?
Yeah, I can definitely be conscious of my consciousness of my consciousness or likewise, be self-aware of my self-awareness; but the mind has limits, and it can't really carry this kind of thing on forever; we only render so much and consider anything more by imagining "potential infinities".

Sociology
-------------------
Sociology is the scientific study of society, with the caveat that both "scientific" and "society" are ambiguous terms. It originated in the 19th century with Auguste Comte, who originally used the term social physics (meaning a scientific study of society in the same way we study empirical regularities in nature and elevate them to an abstract mechanics, i.e. a physics) but then saw that Adolphe Quetelet was using the term too and so coined sociologie.

Both Comte and Quetelet are kind of odd: Comte was a utopian social thinker (he was the secretary of the utopian socialist Saint-Simon) and founder of "positivism," which in his view was like a post-metaphysical meta-science that mankind is now ready to mature into after getting rid of religion and metaphysics. Comte wants a unified science that studies all regularities in nature, arranged in a hierarchy with more complex/higher order systems posterior to simpler systems, e.g., a positivist science of physics precedes one of psychology which precedes one of society.

Quetelet was one of the founding fathers of quantitative social science (another being with Francis Galton). He was a leading figure in the development of modern statistics, at a time when statistics was a new and exciting mathematical field and people weren't exactly sure what it was or what its epistemological roots or implications were, so Quetelet had a vision of a kind of quasi-metaphysical statistical social science where the statistical averages of things (as revealed by the normal distribution) tell us about their essences. This doesn't really survive, but by the time of Durkheim and Galton the use of statistics has created a whole new epistemological era, whole new ways of thinking about averages and ideal types and so forth.

In Germany the historicist tradition (which became a jealously guarded guild) and political economy / proto-"economics" were at odds with each other in the 19th century, because the historicists took their method of sympathetic intuitive description of "individualities" (people but also nations and epochs, any "organic" entity like a "people" e.g.) to be the alpha and omega of the study of human culture, society, etc. They emphasised that any model or abstraction has to be naturalised and explained in terms of the concrete individuality of some agent (persons but also any organic entity), an extension of romantic subjectivist epistemology (see Herder for example). In short, they were very anti-abstraction, they didn't like comparative frameworks that claimed to find supra-individual "laws" valid for all societies and cultures or which all societies and culture are merely variations upon, etc.

Not my favorite of his, but that's partly because I built it up too high in my head before reading it. I imagined the book would be the ultimate culmination of everything he wrote before it, so I didn't read it until I'd read almost all his novels beforehand. Very little of the novel hit me harder than, say, Siddhartha or Beneath the Wheel or Demian. I still appreciated the novel, and look forward to whenever I read it a second time. A big part of what made it flop for me was that I spent much of 2020 reading most of Hesse's work, including the half dozen or so books I'd already read of his, so I burned out a little. I think two or three months passed between re-reading Narcissus/Goldmund and re-reading Journey to the East, and another month between JttE and finally tackling GBG.
It's hard for me to recommend reading any particular Hesse book first, beyond Peter Camenzind (his first novel) or Beneath the Wheel (the first I read personally). I think maybe you'd be best starting with Siddhartha or Steppenwolf. Journey to the East is a decent primer for what makes Hesse tick, and an integral prologue for GBG, but I don't think it stands too well on its own, and is probably better saved for later on. I think anything before Demian could be seen as something like a "realist" period, and Demian and onward represents an increasing fascination with the mystic, so it's up to you what you'd be most interested in to start with.
To reiterate, GBG should be saved for last, but not too close after reading a dozen other books, lest you wear yourself out.
I'd be interested in writing more about Hesse if you have more questions, but I'm about to go to bed, so it would have to be later on. I don't fancy myself an expert in his work, but I've read a shitload of it, and I consider him one of my favorite authors, loosely tied with Dazai, for whatever that may be worth.

Proximity. Stuff like you touch her shoulder, does she recoil or does she reciprocate? That's pretty much it. How much does she let you into her personal space?
I don't know why everyone says all this bullshit about "if she touches her hair, but looks away from you and back that's a good sign unless she's looking at a door and the wind is traveling in a northeasterly direction and it's a Tuesday..." - even if it's true that it's this subtle, it doesn't help anons who have trouble reading 'cues'.
Like I'm sure where her crotch/hips is pointing is also important and not even for sexual reasons: because when you think about it sitting or standing the direction your crotch is pointing indicates where your mind is. If I sit with my crotch pointed to the door, but I'm still making eye contact with someone to my left, then it's clear I'm 'angling to leave'. However, if I'm making eye contract with someone to my right, but my crotch is pointed in your direction, then clearly I intend on finishing that conversation to my right and redirecting my energy/attention in the direction the rest of my body is turned.

Not infinite regress because eventually you will have to go get food and go to sleep and disrupt the regress.

Close your eyes and repeat this thought to yourself over and over: consciousness is conscious it is conscioius. I am conscious, I am consciousness, I am aware I am consciousness, I am consciousness aware I am conscious.

consciousness is conscious it is conscioius consciousness is conscious it is conscioius consciousness is conscious it is conscioius consciousness is conscious it is conscioius consciousness is conscious it is conscioius consciousness is conscious it is conscioius consciousness is conscious it is conscioius consciousness is conscious it is conscioius

First of all, one must understand the relevency of multi tasking in the complex mysterious confounding aspects of the mechanisms and functions of consciousness and the mind
Second of all, i dont know

I can say that repeating awareness phrase over and over while juggling, and/or thinikng what I would want for dinner.

Because the multiplicity of mind and conciousness, flowing over, seeing, vast internal spaces and time, it can reflect on the existence of its awareness and recognize, and make it self aware of its recognition, without some paradox or oddity as was suggested

Also there is this phase: self conscious, or self aware.

Pretty much semantically contains this idea.

And maybe an aspect of the understanding of that phrase is a reminder of the identification with the strange mysterious fact of concioisness itself, instead of getting caught up identifying with things less fundamental, further from the acknowledgement that as fundamentaly as we are out bodies, and our bodies relation to the world, we are just as much, possibly moreso immediately related and close to our minds, conciousness, as much to most commonly refer to it as our selves

Then there is the whole thing of having to speak these words, conciousness is conscious it is conscious, needing the repeatitive physical inner feeling and speaking and sound of the words, to try to get to understanding the idea the words represent.

In my head in was saying that phrase over and over, sounding it out with my mouth silently, and with the mouth that is iny brain, trying to think rreally what does this phrase mean, what is being refered to,.that which does the referring,

Then to try to continue the contemplation of that idea with dropping the inner repeating of the words, then really the wordless awareness itself is left there, speechless, grasping out for itself, peering at it's emptyness, it's light bulbness, it's light likeness, it's on-ness, it's pure awareness of awareness ness.

Life knowing it is alive, seeing seeing it is seeing. Knowing knowing it is knowing. Being being it is being. Then it is possible to understand the monks, words, stop, thinking stops, and I feel my whole mind and body become harmonic, and I am purely the feeling of good. The scope and nature of reality legitimately scare me sometimes. I'll lay awake sometimes at night and try to envision the Sun—not the dulled version we see through atmosphere and immense distance, but in the way I can close my eyes and build an intuitive conception of my hand, hold the image within my head, rotate it around. I can't do it. The Sun is unimaginable in any context other than the strictly human, or without aid of comparisons and abstractions. It doesn't fucking fit, and it drives me crazy that it doesn't. It isn't unknowable or inconceivable, because we can know its processes, its functions, even its future. It just doesn't fit. We don't have a word for the not-fitting. It terrifies me to imagine it in the small way I can, that stellar furnace fusioning finite fuel at the centre of our solar system, hot and huge and intense enough to feel on your skin from millions of miles away.

It drives home how ultimately powerless we all are. We're completely dependent on a large, burning orb of unimaginable size, yet only average in the universal scope, located an incomprehensible distance away... which is essentially in our back yard in the universal scope itself. We don't really understand even gravity, which we all take for granted. We play games and sports based on intuitions of physics and the nature of gravity, but it's still fundamentally axiomatic and can't be brought into further precision. And despite all of these humbling, incomprehensible forces, we still manage to get caught up in vestigial social structures, sticking to our tribes, vying for supremacy in an era which amounts to the blink of a cosmic eye.

It's all so tiresome, bros. I can't wait for death sometimes, but I'm too cowardly to want to do it just yet.

This is why the old conception of Earth being the center of the universe makes far more sense in a lot of ways than the modern attempt at assuming a God's-eye view of everything. It's not about "objectivity", that concept being a perpetually elusive carrot-on-a-stick ideal anyway, but rather an acknowledgement of our own extremely limited perspective and cognitive abilities. It's our own center of the universe, from which our eyes look outward. It's a more humble and sensible perception as pertains to our self awareness as a species. I think this pretentious "God's-eye" stance has subtly infected our entire culture and shapes everyone's thoughts about everything. I think it's Dunning Kruger on a massive scale.

I believe GBG is still very much Eastern, but it's hard to say for sure. The most "Western" part of it is a quasi-Romanticism, as the setting is a city where young men are raised to appreciate art and nature first and foremost. Or maybe art specifically, and the novel ends with the protagonist realizing pure nature is superior. I don't remember too well. It can be argued there's some Transcendentalist leaning somewhere, even though that's more an American thing. I'm pretty sure it's also a reaction against the modern/industrial world, what with the World Wars. Jesse certainly hated WWI, which iirc is why he first moved out of Germany. Pretty sure GBG came out after WW2, but I don't feel like looking up the date lel

The government wants to ban telegram on my country because "it helps to spread misinformation" and the company didn't cooperate with the local authorities when questioned about this.
Not only they will not accomplish neither of their goals because, there will still be ways to use telegram if you are tech savvy enough, but people will only move to another app like signal.

All the government has to do is routinely wipe out the bigger problematic social media accounts. If you just ban everyone who gets near 100k followers on Twitter or whatever you effectively hamstring the circulation of dissident content to the masses. Places like /pol/ are irrelevant and beyond easy to control by just having a couple guys spam threads

Women have always been like that, the only thing that changed is social acceptance of such behavior. I started dating and fucking in mid 00s and there was dishonesty, cynicism and cucking everywhere even before Instagram, Tinder or Tiktok.

What would ironic sex look like? Daniel Tosh motor boating Norma Stitz on a motorboat for the broadcast on Tosh.O

He is doing it for the audience in between cracking appalling gay jokes. It is obvious he is not attracted to her and her Guinness record world yugest breasts. I would unironically be so hard and enjoying myself it would not be broadcast on TV.

What would ironic rape look like?
Drillary Clinton tweeted "the best sex is when you say no and he go for it anyway!"

I'm dirt poor with a useless degree and I can't find a job in my city that pays a livable wage. I can't afford to move to another city to find work there, and I'm stuck in a horrible living situation but housing around here is stupid, you have to make 3x/rent as income monthly to even get into a home/apartment. I sleep in my car a few nights out of the month and I have no fucking clue what to do to get out of this situation. I wish I had the answers or knew the right person to ask. People are so unhelpful and self-obsessed.

Well, you wouldn't be in a situation any worse. Do you live in Europe or something? In America decent jobs are almost impossible not to find, and low rent towns are a dime a dozen.
