Shadow of the Torturer felt to me to be very meandering after the main character is exiled. Even beforehand it was “he goes to this place, talks to this guy, then leaves and it’s never mentioned again.”

I’ve seen a lot of people praise the series on here, and I’m thinking of giving it another chance. What are some reasons you like the book(s) and what did you get out of them?

Gene Wolfe, people are always like "oh yeah he's an amazing author but every book he's written sucks"

it's not plot driven, and people really like the series because things are always mentioned and called back upon again later

Some of the ideas are kinda neat tho. I LOVE the concept of the Revolutionary, a torture method where your hands involuntary try to strangle you, slowly against your own will.
