I have a strong desire to leave society and take part in some kind of pilgrimage for the sake of my conscience and mental stability.

Are there any books about this or someone doing this?

Something inside me is deeply wrong, and I don't know if I am trying to flee it by wanting to disappear and live ascetically on foot for a while, or whether it is a healthy or in some sense beneficial desire. The prospect of sitting around making money is depressing to me although I have done this for years full-time. I have an urge to live cheaply and walk in a particular direction.

Does it seem authentic? As I understand it he wasn't far from society and lived rather comfortable with the help of his mother and neighbours.

What's the point of doing that? Why will you feel different after a bit of travel?

A man's got to eat. Taking a vacation won't change that.

there is literally a book titled Leave Society, by Tao Lin that is about this in a less depressive way.

picrel has a character who wants to leave society because he wants to disappear

Tao Lin's book is more about living in society but just not allowing certain ideologies etc to effect you afaik. Also that Eggplant book is shilled a lot, are you a shill or is it good?

not a shill, and it's okay. the part about the society-leaving loner is breddy good, the rest is just fine.

Leave Society was very ambiguous, and a lot about the emotional relationships in Lin's life, so it's not as heavy on that angle. towards the end of the book it gets a little more direct about the whole dropping-out aspect. desu it's a lot more about not letting carcinogens and processed food effect you. "Society" to him is basically everything not-natural, not really about the way people act en masse and wanting to separate from that.

Okay, thank you for replying. I will consider Eggplant first of all.
