how do you write comedy? can you even do it consistently? there are funny moments in books like when gandalf gets mad at pippin but can write a comedy book?

Just pick on an easy target everyone hates and make them look stupid. Be as mean as possible to a minority. That is how you can be a successful comedian nowadays.
