Why are words like "Jap" for Japanese or "tranny" for a transsexual/transgender considered pejorative? They literally come from the word that it's used to define these populations in a generic way.

>> No.19886093

Because most people are not autistic and understand context.

>> No.19886102

Never met a person that used them that thought positively about either group. There you go, context.

I use Jap all the time as a short form of Japanese and I use it to describe Japanese things I like.

Americans/anglos always get weird when I call polacks "polacks", which is what we call them in my language and what they call themselves. Apparently it's derogatory in english.

>"But negro just means "black"!
Historical context matters. After a decade of Americans using jap as a pejorative during the war, it became a pejorative. If all of /pol/ decided tomorrow to use '"trans" instead of "tranny" in their posts bashing transgender people it would become a pejorative in the future as well

People are rewarded for being offended. It gives them attention and is considered justification for aggressive retaliation. So they are continually inventing new ways to become offended.

Why is Jew considered a slur when it’s the normal English word to refer to them?

>> No.19887333

>>19886045
Because they are almost exclusively said in contexts where the speaker is very clearly derisive about his subject, in addition to being dumbed down versions of relatively long words, implying that the subject isn't even worth of the effort of using its longer name.

I always thought Jap was a cool word. If I were a Jap I'd want to be called a Jap. Nice and short, just like a Jap.

"Japanese person" vs. Jap, or Nip. Obviously Jap or Nip is better. Same problem with trannies, nobody wants to say "trans person" for fuck's sake. If we have to acknowledge these FREAKS, might as well have a convenient word for them.

Personally I like to say "transvestite" until they correct me. Then I say sorry, I thought it meant the same thing, and then let them explain the difference, then I just keep saying transvestite anyway.

I can make African American a pejorative if I get in a black guys face and say it like some Brooklyn wop all “OH! look at dis fucking African American ova here!”
