When I was 19-20 I borrowed this book from a friend and when I started reading I got to the part where Thompson is listing all the drugs he had with him, and they dude I borrowed it from had highlighted each drug and underlined them. It embarrassed me so much I gave the book back to him.
I never read anything by him since, should I?

Las Vegas is a great funny book. His masterpiece and the purest distillation of what he is about is fear and loathing on the campaign trail though.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is fun but sort of reads like self satire when compared to his other work. He is worth reading, not the drugged up train wreck he is often made out to be.

i love HST but not because he's good, he just scratches a particular niche for me
his book about the hell's angels is his only genuinely good work and istrongly recommend it
his stuff about oscar zeta acosta is very interesting
his thing about the kentucky derby was pretty good
and that;s it, don't waste your time with the other shit, believe me

It's a good book, although the last third ia juat annoying and barely funny at all.
