19860035 No.19860035 [Reply] [Original]

In a shelf thread some days ago I saw a Dutch Spengler anon with picrel as his shelf. I would really like to talk to this person so if you're him let me know.

Also what is a good work of Spengler to read after Decline of the West and Man and Technics? Is his treatise on Heraklitus good? Or his unfinished work called "Urfragen"? Also are there good biographies on Spengler?

Aside from Decline of the West and Man & Technics
>Hour of Decision
Is a very prescient critique of the state of the West. In particular, it's interesting to see how he foresaw progressive identity politics, critical race theory, before the ideas of the Frankfurt School had really taken root. It's interesting to read a conservative take on it, whereby he explains what is going to happen and why it's going to happen as a logical outcome of the path Western culture took.
>Prussianism & Socialism
It's worth getting 'Prussian Socialism & Other Essays' just to have a compendium of some of his shorter works. But I particularly like the aforementioned essay which really gets to the heart of what differentiates the German and the Anglo. Also, he naturally plays hot potato with Marx. Just as some Anglos wish to dissociate from Marx by asserting the continental roots of his philosophy, Spengler wants to dissociate Marx from Germanic thought by pointing out that he was a rootless Jew who formed his socioeconomic theory in industrial England.
There's another essay in the compendium, I think called 'The Two Faces of Russia and Germany's Eastern Problems', which again seems to be a prescient take that foresaw the Eurasianism of Dugin et al.
(This is untrue, there was Eurasianism in Russia both contemporary to, and preceding Spengler. The main change being that the Eurasianism of that time was usually framed as anti-German, whereas more recent Eurasianism is more anti-Anglosphere/Atlanticist.)
In all it's quite clear that if Spengler hated anyone, it wasn't the Jews (he was 1/8th Jewish himself fwiw), it wasn't the Russians, it wasn't even the French (whom he did look down upon nevertheless). The seething pit of hatred that burned in Spenglers heart was for Perfidious Albion.
