is this right? should you read as little books as possible? only sticking to the acclaimed and canon?

>> No.19830980

But… if nobody reads obscure books in order to avoid encountering bad ones, then how can any new books be acclaimed?

>> No.19831005

Obscure books will sink into oblivion and people will read nothing but old classics and whatever flavor of the month marketing tells them to read.

Good or bad is relative, one person may find inspiration in a certain book, another might find it a complete bore. Therefore the quote is a lot of poppycock, reading various books is an adventure in itself, sometimes you will encounter bad books, but finding the ones that make you happy makes it all worth it.

Yes, he is right. Garbage media is a cognitohazard. I used to listen to a lot of jazz and to this day I have enormous trouble keeping my mind quiet. I always have imaginary Tribal Tech sounding shit in my brain.

If you read the essay he does not say this at all. He talks about developing a pecuilar taste and reading things along that line. He never says to be a dilletante who just reads what some academics curated for him. Are you fucking daft. How do you interpret Schopenhauer to be this obsequious academic. Stop posting and read more, retard.

Pretty much this, amazing it even needs to be said

Now replace 'books' with 'internet' and 'social media'.

I'm talking about the entire essay by the way, not picrel.

I think you should have a few actually bad books under your belt at least to fully appreciate books that are good but not great otherwise the good will just seem bad compared to the great.

Technically he's right but it's a difficult thing to measure.

So many kikes here. How low has man sunken to genuinely believe that objective truth, beauty and morality does not exist?

You’re retarded and missed his point. You read to develop taste and expose yourself to new ideas, not to parrot the Jewish canon at a dinner party.

Schopenhauer's mom cut up his meat for him...so maybe let's not take advice from this guy.

>> No.19832961

If you only read the canon, you will never produce anything original or relevant. You won't mine any new gold out of Keats
