i've read basically every philosopher and every major philosophical text.
but i skipped plato and aristotle.
i read the republic when i was 14 but that's it.
are plato and aristotle worth reading or nah?

Yeah.

they just seem so boring, basic, and entry-level though...

I think purely through commentaries alone you'd have read Aristotle's entire corpus + his students a dozen times if you actually did this.

ok so no
>>19805514
yeah, plato too. doesn't really seem worth actually reading them desu. i feel the same about lacan too.

Smart people are achieving things, not trying to look cool and smart on 4chan. As such, it doesn't matter what you read. You'll be spinning in a very small circle until you die.

Lol.
The metaphysics by Aristotle is ranked with the Science of Logic when it comes to "entry"-level.

I'd admend the above comment to say you'll be 'spinning in circle a very short time until you die,' as you have a number of poor measures of health.

Its interesting for the characters and later effect on thought.

You should read Symposium for memes about Alcibiades, Aristophanes and catamites in general. Or Timaeus for Atlantis. Other than that, maybe Gorgias and the apology of Socrates.

For Aristotle you should read Poetics for its effect on later playwrights.

Ofcourse they are worth it dood... exactly these two are the best philosophers of all time (together with Kant)... why on earth would you skip exactly them ? Read the 11 books Plato wrote on his theory of ideas (he splitted it up in several (11) dialogues) and at least Aristotles metaphysics and categories... holy crap

i suffer from an excess of health, as nietzsche put it. you stupid bastard

>>19806279
funny enough, i have read both the symposium and poetics, but that doesn't count as having read plato and aristotle

>>19807264
fine, ok, fine. i just should have read them already, it's embarrassing.

If you've actually read every major text of medieval and modern philosophy, you should already be able to answer that question yourself.
