I want to become a monk without joining a monastery, or at least embody the monk lifestyle.
What are some general guidelines I should follow? Ten Commandments, religious study, meditation plus abstinence are a given but what else?
Disclaimer: please no Peterson-tier how-to-live-your-life shit; also the only reason I'm not actually joining a monastery is because I have health issues and need to work for insurance.

you need to renounce to external world and stop delaying the inevitable with medicine.

You posted a picture of a Buddhist, but you mention Christianity as well as meditation.

Do you have a religion?

I recommend the work of Shinzen young. He has created a secular format for ways to gain the benefits of being a monk without becoming a monk or leaving a western life style.

You can go to his site for more information http://shinzen.org/

It has free meditation training at unified mindfulness, and various free articles and outlines. It also has paid talks and guided meditations. Some specifically regarding why aesthetics and monks live like that and how to get those benefits.

ceasing my medication wouldn't kill me, it would just greatly lessen my quality of life
