19789771 No.19789771 [Reply] [Original]

>He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit on the man’s eyes and put his hands on him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?”. He looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.” Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly.
Uuuh christbros why did the lord omnipotent need to use saliva to heal the blind man like some ham-fisted medicine man, and, more importantly, why didnt the miracle work the first time?

he had to do a little at first, because he didn't know how much he should use. Jesus spit is potent stuff. What if he used too much? Poor guy would be seeing in 5D.

There are loads of passages where Jesus heals people without using his spit so he clearly didn’t need to use it. The point here is symbolic. When a baby is baptized today in the Catholic Church, the priest will rub spit on its eyes in reference to this moment.

You ought to know that saliva was not seen as something inherently disgusting, depending on the context it could be seen as an insult, neutral or positive. If I spit on you it is an insult, if I try to turn the pages and lick my thumb to do so it is neutral, and if I use my saliva to clean someone's wound or suck the poison out it is obviously positive. In this case using it to heal somebody it is positive. When you receive the sacramentals the priest rubs his saliva on your ears, puts holy salt on your tongue and blows onto your face three times, this is a cleansing ritual, an exorcism to purify you before your baptism.

the bible all make more sense when you use allegories to the mind and consciousness
its not historical facts but the road to spiritual enlightenment
i interpret this chapter as " doing outside rituals is not what will open men's eyes, it has to come from within, man has to allow himself to see in order to see, touch his own spirit.
once man is able to see, he is told not to go back to that village, the place he used to be. for you do not want to be blind again.

>they look like trees walking around
This is an interesting phrase. At first, I thought the man was simply referring to the fact that he could only see the rough outlines of people, like shadows. But "walking trees" seems a strange way to put this.

To answer your question: I think certain people can only handle so much. Those with great faith may think nothing of their wounds miraculously being healed - others, with less faith, might be terrified by the same. Perhaps Jesus recognized that this man was on his way towards the truth, but wasn't quite there yet, so He introduced the saliva as a ritual to make the man's sudden restoration of sight more acceptable to his senses.

Obviously Jesus didn't need the spit to do the miracle, and obviously that was known to the gospel writers who recorded many others without it. The fact that He did it this one recorded time is indicative of it being an authentic event, and of Jesus having some specific reason for doing so with this specific individual. What those reasons are we do not know, but it paints a very vivid picture for us reading it since then, including the recipient stating that he could partially see after the first one. Those of us with some faith but not perfect, full faith can certainly relate, as we can definitely see better than we could with no faith, but still cannot see as well as we'd like.

Christ didn't actually cure his blindness retard. It's a reference to "seeing clearly" which begins in the old testament with Adam and Eve after they eat from the tree of the knowledge of good (tov) and bad (ra)
